Why isn't Shane Lowery playing in the Open Championship at Turnburry

    Shane won the Irish Open.

I would have thought that he would have got an exemption to play in the Open Championship.
Obviously not the case, he does not appear to be playing.

I wonder why he is not invited ?

He played in the qualifying event at Sunningdale in June and didn't succeed and he doesn't qualify on any other basis as a pro as he won the Irish open as an amateur.

http://www.opengolf.com/ChampionshipGolf/TheOpenChampionship/Players/ExemptPlayers.aspx has the details of the exemptions... like top 50 in the world etc.
If you didn't get an exemption, you could try to qualify. He tried in Sunningdale.

Don't write Paddy off, if he can get that famous stare going during the weekend, he can do very well.

Shane is one for the future, he is only 22, when Harri was 22, he was doing professional Accounting exams.

There is no exemption for the open if you win the Irish open be you Pro, Amateur, Conno or Paddy. I dont think there are too many european tour events, if any, that carry automatic exemption into the british open, or any other major for that matter.
