I know a few people on here have bought frames from them so..

Will the ship the frame with the headset installed?

For the bb, do I need a torque wrench or is 'tight as I can' with a standard wrench okay? I presume a torque wrench is advised for everything else.

Edit: what is their delivery time like?

Torque wrench all the way. Specific torques are given on the park tools website.

"Tight as I can" is asking for problems further down the road (literally).

As far as I know it comes in bits without headset installed (unless you pay the extra assembly charge.)

Torque settings for their carbon frames.

Park tool BBT-19 can be fitted to a torque wrench.

Delivery time? Well I'm still waiting on my bike but that's due to the frame been out of stock till mid july.:(

No the headset is not installed, but it's not such a big deal to put it yourself (but i am saying that because i just learned to do it, thanks Tiny :D).

Use a torque meter or you are looking for trouble. I got mine in 3 days, but was in stock. It's a lovely frame and super light, you ll enjoy it!

I just built one last week .... the headset that came with it was missing the compression bolt !! bit of a pain in the hole to have to head out and get one mid build !! but very very happy with the frame !!

They itemise that ("carbon fork bung") separately when you are buying the frame, maybe you left it out? It's a bit of a strange one all right, I know you can't use a star nut as it is a carbon steerer but I would have thought many headsets come with carbon-steerer-compatible bungs as it is.

exactamundo ! as far as I know, any other time I have bought a headset, you get the star nut or Compression Bolt ( fork bung ??! eh whats that now ?? )

I see there's a million PX threads so I'll just hijack this one. I'm off to the States for a holiday in a few weeks and was thinking of bringing back a PX frame

    http://www.planet-x-usa.com/pPCRFRMST/Planet-X-Pro-Carbon-SL-Road-Frameset.aspx

$500- is a good bit cheaper than the £400- it would cost delivered to Ireland.

I've currently got a Cannondale R1000 with ultegra groupset. The plan would be to just swap frames. Worth it for $500- ? Any issues I might run into building up the new frame with the existing components ?

Bear in mind you may have to pay excess or large baggage fee carrying it back, I am not sure it makes a lot of sense to be honest for under €100 saving- which would be wiped out if you were caught in Dublin customs.

You should be able to swap frames, the main issue you might have is if the seatpost on the Cannondale is 27.2 you would need a shim to use it with the PX. You would also have an issue with the front derailleur- if it is braze-on you can just get a different size adapter but if it is clamp on I think you would need a new one with the wider clamp size.

Well the flights are with Virgin who don't charge for an additional piece of sports equipment and I'd be coming back via London so I'd probably take my chances with customs (a frame wouldn't be much of a box). The front derailer may need replacing (it's a clamp on). I'll take the €100- saving though, put it towards the cost of the whole unbuild/rebuild. On that note, any recommendations ?

To do the component transfer? I'd suggest Mr Skeffington here on Boards, he is very reasonable and does a very good job. He built up a cross bike for me. On that topic though you may be surprised how big a frame box is, the box my cross frame came in was pretty damn big.

Virgin are handling the transfer through London?

Aye, Virgin through to Dublin, I'll check it in stateside and (hopefully) see it pop out in Dublin. Thanks for the recommendation, my next port of call.

+1 on the box size. My frame came also came in quite a large box.

I will also hijack this Planet X thread, if people don't mind...

I've been thinking about getting a Planet X frame to replace the relaxed geometry / badly fitting (not sure which, but either way, I want lower handlebars) frame on my current bike (BeOne Storm 2.0).

I'm thinking of getting a Stealth TT frame and doing a component transfer - building it up with drop bars.

Is this crazy? Will the TT geometry be completely crazy handling wise? I'm ok with the idea of a more agressive seat tube angle, I'll mostly be doing TTs anyway, but will the head tube angle and fork rake be significantly different?

    Planet-X Stealth

    Planet-X SL

Angles aside, the Stealth has a much shorter short top tube, so you'd need a long stem for the drop bars, but that would push forward the mounting position for your aerobars, which will push the pads closer to your wrists. Or you could use a stem optimised for the aerobars, but that'll give you a cramped position on the drop bars.

I'm all for "one bike that does everything" but I think this is a compromise too far.

Dont know if this helps but the corrugated board box my frame came in is 108x17x57 cm and weighed in approx 3kgs.

Just on the intial post -
I bought a PX SL frameset during the summer, I also purchased a headset from them, upon delivery I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had installed it for me. However, I was less that pleasantly surprised to find that the frameset does not come with barrel adjusters as standard (actually Mr. Skeff was more upset than I was, I had not noticed).
    Something to keep in mind.

Took 6 days to deliver (ordered on Sat, arrived on Thurs)

    G'co

Yes, that's a mighty important point that has caught out a couple of people!

Do most frames come with barrel adjusters? My Kinesis cross frame certainly didn't.

I wouldn't have thought so, they are about as much a part of the frame as cable housings, but it would be nice of them to say they aren't included.
