A word of thanks to the motorist who stopped to offer me a lift tonight when he saw I had a puncture.

I left Bray in beautiful sunshine intending to go the back road to Rathnew and loop back via the N11. Got to Charlesland and saw the black clouds so abandoned and went straight for the N11. Under the flyover I contemplated waiting for the rain to stop but continued. Got to Glen o'the Downs and felt the back wheel wobble. Found shelter under tree and replaced tube. 100 metres further on BANG. Stopped again (I always carry 2 tubes) but as I was starting to fix I noticed a Cork regd. jeep stop in the hard shoulder and reverse with the hazards on back to me and offer a lift. Fair play to you sir if you are reading. Much appreciated. Fixed puncture again and got away, getting soaked again, all well till a goat ran out in front of me at 40kmh at the halting site at Avoca Handweavers. Came into Bray to the glorious sunshine I had left-and dry roads!

Just to show that not all motorists hate us. I didn't get one shout of derision but this man's assistance was above and beyond. Thanks again.

EDIT: I was doing 40kmh, not the goat!!

SUV driver in "kind and generous" shocker. Another stereotype-destroying data point for the files. :)

You don't usually see southern hospitality in this country!

Do have a similar story regarding a Mississippi man stoping in the hard shoulder for me in Tennessee...now that was real southern hospitality!! ;)

He was probably going to kill you once he had you in the jeep.

Just to add further fuel to the fire......and upset all the myth's regarding motorists........

Was out training a few weeks ago and had juest decended, crossed the little bridge and had started up the 'Devils elbow' when my chain dropped about 20 metre's into the climb. My chain was jammed and it took me a few minutes to extract it, some guy in a old peugeot van passed me and stopped on the hill, he got out to check if he could help.
After seeing I was alright he went to drive off but couldn't get up the hill on the clutch, he had to roll back to make a run at it :o

..So yes there are still plenty of 'sound heads' on the road....

Ha ha I was bored here one night going through my "thanked posts" and only saw it again then. I can see how it looks though. Hats off for that response:D
