Yeah, I've entered. Should be good fun! 6.5K is an unusual distance but at least it means that most people are guaranteed a PB!! :) Think they're also taking entries on the day if they haven't reached 500 entries.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 408 ✭✭jinka

Doubt they will get 500 so will risk late entry. The whole post thing puts me off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Lisapeep

Yeah, I would also say you'd be fine entering on the day!

    Details of the race here

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 408 ✭✭jinka

Well as per the "Dublin norm" the price to enter is way out and again 3 top prizes is a poor show. I mean who organizes these things!?

It is getting to the stage where everybody thinks they can put on a race and expect huge numbers , poor prize structure and high fees.

How is 3 top prizes a poor show? That's what most races give out? All proceeds are going to stroke care in the hospital, no one is profiting from this.

Stroke is one of the highest killers in Ireland today, the care provided in hospitals is absolutely vital ANY financial boost to stroke care is a massive boost, this years and next years races will benefit stroke care and the years after that it'll benefit other areas of the hospital.

There are just under 200 entered for it so far I'd imagine there'll be a large sign up % on the night. If you're running come for a massage after I'll be there working my magic.

It's set to be a really good evening with the Fosset's circus crowd involved aswell.

RacoonQueen, i totally agree with you.

plan to post entry tomorrow (thanks for info, lecheile),
it should be a fun evening and all for a good cause.

and i can assure you the prize money wont be something i have
    to worry about!:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 408 ✭✭jinka

Oh I agree with you regarding the money going to a good cause. Infact im overly familiar with it in my family im afraid.

I think top 3 is a bhaa thing and most spread the prizes a bit more.If you keep coming 4th after giving up your day, time and travel expenses you would understand!!

Still think entry is high. Remember some of us in the private sector are on 3 day weeks or not working atall.
Having said that I will be there and hope to see a big crowd.

It is high. But it is organised by the hospital directly so I'm guessing any profits go to them directly. If that's the case then well and good. I'm thinking of running it as it's a great route and it is not very often you get the opportunity to run around the streets of Dublin. Wish they left it at 4 miles instead of 6.5k though.

There are only a handful, maybe 50 or so entries left. So if there's any left by tomorrow night you'd want to be there early, maybe ring tomorrow morning and double check.

fyi - just gave them a ring and they have about 25 places left to "give away"... shame I was all ready to go but wouldn't get there on time to fight for the places. but of course great for the organisers/charity!

Really enjoyed the race. Good turnout, well organised, very impressive setting. Hopefully it becomes an annual event.

You had to work on the course, first hill after a few hundred meters and the hill as you came back to the museum really made you work. Happy with the time, just over 25 minutes.

Lion bar went down well as did the free massage.

Great Run - well organised and a treat to run on the city streets. Free Massages top stuff - only wish that was on offer after every run :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 981 ✭✭✭flikflak

I really enjoyed this run last night. Was the first one I have ever done and I was doing it more to see if I could manage it! Well I did manage it and could have ever gone a little further. I only kept to a pace I could manage and came in at about 42 mins. I git a bit stuck behind the walkers at the beginning but I will know for next time to get a bit closer to the front.

Thanks to everyone marshalling for their support!

I ran it too and really enjoyed it. It was my first race, was quite nervous about it, but it was good fun. I took it easy because I wanted to enjoy it. I still finished it in 39 minutes, which wasn't too bad, I thought.

Did anyone manage to get any results for this, or the times of the top finishers?

Didn't make it myself but I'm sure was a good race....

    thanks in advance

I can only help you with the first man's names really.

2nd Liffey Valley athlete whose name shamefully escapes me - Merriman?

Thanks very much SP............ I'm not familiar with the winner....have heard of the Liffey Valley athlete that was second and it's Cormac Delahunty of Raheny in third....

Womens first and second look like Kate O' Neill MSB and Patricia Wolarcyzk (deffo wrong spelling!) Raheny

I remember seeing another race photo of Patricia now that you mention the name - that had the clock in it and she finished in 23.24. The clock was behind me for all my photos so I can't help with times. Patrycja Włodarczyk is the exact spelling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭bewleys berry

yeah the time sounds right alright.......... 6.5k is a tiny bit over 4m so the guys that fin 2nd and 3rd should be going a tiny bit quicker than 22 for the distance..........

fair play on the polish spelling :D

Yeah that's right. I can't remember the third lady's name. Winning lady came in at 23:14.

2nd man Alan I think? I was taking the top 3's but I can barely remember what happened yesterday never mind Thursday evening.

The evening went really well and most people seem to have enjoyed the race, hopefully a bigger field will be allowed next year.

How come finishing times / places weren't recorded at the race on Thursday? I know the top 3 were taken but were the full results recorded?

No just the top 3. The folks that provided the timing would have the time that people crossed the line but they wouldn't have who exactly crossed the line when, if that makes any sense? I suppose the only reason that we only did top 3 was because we didn't have the man power for that, it's a big job to mark everyone who crosses + their time when you haven't got chip timing. The time that was on the clock when people finished would be close to their actual finish time, apart from a few stragglers everyone crossed the startline within a minute IIRC.
