I presume we are all watching TG, anyone else's opinions on the Panamera changed in the last few minutes?

When I saw the first pictures I thought it was manky but it looks far far better in the metal in my opinion.

Have to say that I don't like the look of it purely based on pictures I've seen. However, I always wait until I see a car in the flesh to pass final judgement.

Have to say I totally agree with you. Although a DB9 is something I've been coveting for a while

Yes, but that aside, I do think that it looked pretty good winding through those Scottish B-roads compared to the initial reaction I had when I saw the pictures.

As an aside, the bit with the Transformers at the end was pretty cool though I do wonder if TG serves as a recruiting ad for the British armed forces some times.

Fairly ugly car plus who in Ireland is go to buy one?? I presume your talking 160ish grand for the base model minus options. For once I agree with James May. If money weren't a factor I'd go with that Quattroporte

Porsche identify a market previously unknown to all other manufacturers, the market for a four door road rocket, they produce a solution and despite the unplanned global recession, make millions as a result...

Time will tell, I'm putting my money on a horse in the meantime... ;)

Porsche are all but bankrupt at the mo.

have seen 2 in the flesh - much better than in pics.

And, despite being a P-car person.........I'd have the Maserati first, too........

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Seen one 2 weeks ago in Monaco. It was white and had UAE reg. Was nice but i wouldn't say amazing. Much nicer cars out there for that kind of money.

Wasnt too fond of it myself watching the show, starting to grow on me though!

That picture you have posted up there is an artist's impression and not the real thing, just to let you know.

seen it on the show, and it just confirmed my initial thoughts,
    ugly as ****....
would much rather spend that money elsewhere...
If I wanted a very very fast and powerful 4 door saloon, I would take the M5...

It's definitely growing on me, I think it looked a lot better on-screen than any of the still photos I have seen previously.

It'll definitely take a chunk out of the sales of similar offerings from BMW/MB/Audi...

Yes, it's a big fat Porsche, but so was the Cayenne and that's sold buckets for them. It's also interesting to note that they seem to have taken a lot more design cues from the Cayman/Boxster than the 911.

I think it is awful, only reason why people will buy is the brand, nothing more.

And I must say that I agree with Hamster that 911 is the way to go:)

Audi,BMW,MB, they all have really cool, fast, nice looking sedan cars you can buy, so why buy the Panamera. It just looks so silly.

Considering they own the controlling share in the Volkswagen Group(Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Skoda and Seat), I sincerely doubt that.

Quatroporte, DB9, M5 are all there first and all nicer to look at. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see there being as many aspirational Porsche drivers as there are aspirational Aston Martin drivers (call it the Bond factor).

The Panamera is a compromise car - for the man who wants a 911 but whose wife insists on four doors..

Considering the amount of married couples, they might be on to something there :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Maybe but given that there are already nicer cars in the same price range that cater to the 'gorgeous four door with performance' market... Porsche are entering an existing market with a poorer product. Doesn't bode well to me... Then again, the Cayenne sold *shudder*

Ive been watching this programme since the days of "The Count" and Tiff were presenting with Clarkeson and Ive never been as bored with it as now, another silly fixed race and another PR stunt for MoD.
Before the jokes and tasks "seemed" to be scripted but now its so obvious everything is.

Still cant not watch it though....

People will buy because it will not go wrong & will hold it's value better than anything else. A lot of 911 buyers are lawyers, accountants,& businessmen. Residual values matter. Try buying a 10 year old 911 & see how much it will cost you.

If you drive a 911 & you start a family what else would you buy ?. You are comparing it to 2+2 's at best. The Aston will go wrong every hour & cost a fortune in servicing. The Mazzer won't be much better.

Have to say I hated it when the pics came out first. I just couldn't see what they really wanted to achieve, but after last night's show, I absolutely LOVE it!

If I had the dosh, there'd be a Panamera and a Focus RS on the drive.

Was anyone else reminded of the 6000 SUX from Robocop when they saw the picture at the start of this thread?

When they were standing beside it at first, the front end seemed pure Laguna. It didn't look much on the M-way, but it seemed a different car on the twisty roads. Much as I have always loved the DB9, that Porche might just tempt me.
Now the Cayenne, THAT was fugly.......
