Basically what I'm looking for is a conclusive A-Z of every known wood from all over the world. This is for a project I am trying to do, which I hope eventually to add four samples of each wood also with information on them all. All help greatly appreciated. Any and all book titles or any sort of information also will be extremely helpful.

    Thanks in advance,
    CH

I have no idea really where I'm gonna get all the different samples to be honest, a lot of e-mails, phone calls, letters and begging to be honest. Thanks a million for the link. If I do eventually get my samples I'll be sure to let you know

I'd hazard a guess that you'd be lucky to turn up 10% of the exotics listed on that site here in Ireland. Check out the sticky on the top of this page for a list of local distributers, wouldn't hurt trying flooring suppliers too.

Try this company, they carry a lot of exotic species.

there is also a site that I that is mentioned in the comments that might be helpful to you. Who knew there was an international wood collecting society!

    Hope this helps.
I'd love one of those boxes of samples, just for the smell :)

    Two indispensable books :
Understanding Wood: A Craftsman's Guide to Wood Technology by R. Bruce Hoadley
A scientific reference for woodworkers, Hoadley explains everything from how trees grow to how best to cut, season, machine, join, bend, and finish wood.

Know Your Woods: A Complete Guide to Trees, Woods, and Veneers by Albert J. Constantine
Albert J. Constantine Jr.'s great-grandfather, a cabinetmaker, founded Albert Constantine and Son, Inc. the family's wood business in 1812. The company sold veneers, cabinet woods, inlays, hardware, finishing and upholstery supplies, tools, etc. . They are still in business. http://www.constantines.com/

    Good luck on the project.
