    Hi all,

Im impressed by my neighbors 32gig Itouch, with the fact that its an mp3 player movie player etc, but was wondering (my neighbour wasnt quite sure on this one...)

Can you download files from the internet through your itouch and then transfer them to your pc/laptop. (i.e. i download 600mb+ size files regulatly using my laptop, but if i had an itouch and i was out and about in wifi range, (cafes/hotels etc.) can i download these size files to the itouch and then transfer to my home laptop later? or is it a case of the itouch is really only an internet browser.

    Thanks for any info.

You'd have to jailbreak it, and then SSH into your device to retrieve the file.
It's possible but hasslesome is what I'm trying to say here.

ipod touch / itouch same thing...

Thanks though for correcting me and not giving any helpful input on my original question.

Its not the same thing, an iTouch is the name on a few different things such as a health monitor, keyboards etc. At the time the iPod touch was launched there was a PC called the iTouch.

Anyway, the movies go PC to iPod, not the other way around. You need to get the movies onto iTunes, then transfer to the iPod.

Ah come on, it is a bit sad :D
Next we will see iNano and iClassic, just accept the fact you want an iphone.

My god, leave the child alone! You understood the question didn't you?!? Now stop nit picking!

To download movies you can do a few things:

The legal way: Set up an English iTunes account and pay for your movies. Open iTunes and download. (needs 3.0 software)

The not-so-legal way: jailbreak your iPod and open cydia. Install the DL plugin and dTunes. Find a compatible mp4 movie. Download it. Open dTunes and you can watch it straight from there. If you want it on your laptop you will have to ssh and find the downloads section and transfer across.

Btw I'm writing from my iPod right now! :)

    The who?

I get my movies either from the tysiphonehelp.com movie page or from the mobile theatre application in cydia!

    yeah quite!
He/she says they regularly downloads files. Prob an ole' MS word file (a book!?), maybe a photoshop document or two. Maybe even an ole' copy of XP! :D

OP, if you are buying things from the iTunes store, you can buy them through your iTouch (so there!), they download direct to the player through wifi, and then when you're back at your PC you can synch them to the PC, through iTunes.

It does not download random files and synch them natively, so not much good if you're getting something from, say, Project Gutenberg.

To be honest, I'm nearly sure he/she was talking about movies and the like without paying for them... But then again I suppose only he/she knows that! :P

Dont read into it too much... nothing illegal...

Its actually graphic design images and some of our bands demo files video blogs and edits etc.

(one of our band is abroad at the mo... hence why we require download capabilities on the move.)

    NOW.... back on topic...

Thanks to the helpful posters for your info... looks like we are going to have to stick to powering up our laptops while on the move instead of just whipping out an Ipod touch. :(

Depends what files you are downloading then... Music and media are quite easy and other files are possible. Ssh, as mentioned earlier is the best option! Care to elaborate on what you will be downloading then?

Oh and btw not all download sites are compatible with the iPod so you would wanna check first!

The legal way: Set up an English iTunes account

    Isn't that a paradox....

You can do it the legal way buy illegally setting up a UK account. That's a paradox.

You can hardly call it illegal...!

The Terms & Conditions would disagree with you. It's illegal. Just saying, I don't care. I have a US account myself.

Yeah... For some reason involving a lot of legal jargon Ireland can't download or rent movies or tv shows so that's why you would want a uk/us account!

This thread symbolises perfectly why I rarely ever read Boards. What a load of crock.
