Less than 250 MB i'd say - it's more for the convenience of being able to check things like bus timetables. Not sure how that'll pan out since I figured out how to tether the phone.

Unless you are seriously into YouTube the average user I'd say will never get over 500 MB - even with tethering

The last while i've used nearly all of it, but that's because i've been tethering.

Other than that i'd usually use about half of it.

    doesn't o2.ie have a export to excel? i can't check as i'm an AT&T customer.

but if it does just export to excel >> filter data charges >> and sum up.

note there may be an easier way but i'm not sure.

Because they don't want you to actually look at it.

That Data Usage number is great, but the remaining mms messages data doesn't work for me. It always says "0" regardless of how many I've (not) used.

Seems not to be functioning yet since mms was enabled.

I only use it for occasionally (when I don't have access to be PC, usually after work hrs) for checking email and surfing the web. On average, never comes to more than 150MB a month.

I hardly ever use wi-fi these days and I would consider myself a relatively heavy user. I make three or four vpn/remote desktop connections a week, Exchange push is turned on as well as Gmail imap, I use radio apps and stream music from my pc over Simplify (not a lot but a fair bit), as well as normal web page viewing, app downloads and whatnot. With all that, I have never hit the 1GB cap and usually stay well below it.

Its a con that O2 won't let you carry over unused data (and voice/texts) into your next billing period, after all, you've paid for them in your monthly tariff.

I use about 500mb a month as I browse the web a lot, listen to internet radio, give the phone to kids on car journeys so they can watch cartoons on youtube etc.

I use 120-140mb of my allowance per month (13%)

While it is a con that you can't carry it forward, realistically I would never, ever use it - so I would prefer to take half of the allowance, and pay less on the tarriff

How long every day do you listen to net radio ??

I only use my allowance when i'm away from my house as i have wifi at home.

In over 2 weeks i've only used 40 mb !! So net radio might suit me in work to listen to tom dunne as my feed in work in gone!!

So at low bandwidth how much would i use in roughly 3 hrs per day 5 days a week ??

elvis jones - I listen for roughly 1hr a day, 5 days a week. The station I listen to most streams at 96kbps which is quite high for web radio.

Newstalk is 64kbps, which is a bit less but will eat up some bandwidth.

I think a few hours a day, 5 days a week might be pushing your limit in a full month - but you can always keep track of what you have left. No reason to not listen for a couple of weeks and see your usage looks.

e.g. I've just dialed *111# and now I know have 668MB remaining for the next 10 days (my bill period runs till the 24th).

I started trying it today at 32bps

I'll keep an eye over the next few weeks.

    i have 950mb left until the 29th on mine:P

Slighlty off topic but can I ask what app you're using for remote desktop? I'm using logmein to connect to my office desktop from my home pc but the iPhone app is €23.99, a bit steep imo. Looking for a less expensive solution than that.

I use Winadmin, which is €4.99 at the moment. I've also used Remote Desktop lite (free) from Mochasoft. There's another one that gets good reviews Jaadu Remote Desktop which is haven't used but that's €20, so you may as well go for logmein instead of that, imo.
Try the free Mochasoft one and see how you like it. There are a few important points to note here though:

    1) If you're running XP Home edition, Vista Starter or any of the Vista Home Editions, this won't work. Look at VNC instead.

    2) If you have an OS that this will work with and you currently don't have a password on your home pc, you will have to put one on it. RDP doesn't work without passwords.

    3) You'll have to forward port 3389 on your router to the ip address of your home pc. This isn't terribly secure so make sure the password on your pc is a good one, mix in some upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols in the password.

PM me if you need more info.

Is everyone here on bill pay? What about payg customers? What are your options as regards data?
And another question...Sorry!...but what exactly is tethering!?

Or download MyBill from the app store. If you're on o2 it will tell you remaining minutes, texts and data on your plan. €1.59

I saw it the other day - pretty handy (moreso for texts and minutes I guess)

Im with 3 at the min, all i have to do is click the 'my 3' icon and i can see how many remaining mins, and mb of data I have to use...cant believe you have to buy an app to check this on o2. Why o2 havnt this option is beyond me....

Um, you don't have to buy an app to check it. You just dial *111#.
Hell, you can even make the number a favourite!

Oh, okay so. Does the info come up on the screen, or do you have to listen to a computerised voice talking to you?Does that tell you your remaining txts/mms/minutes/data?

and most importantly, does it cost anything to check?

Just touch the contact, wait a few seconds, and this is your screen:

    data.gif

No dialing, no talking and no charge. :)
Occasionally it shows an error - though less often than the O2 site that feeds MyBill (which is a great app, btw).
