Nice motor. The 2.0TDI is far superior to the 1.9TDI

Yeah road tax will be cheaper.Check www.motortax.ie.

Even though you maybe buying from a main dealer make sure to do a HPI check. When I purchased my A4 back in 2006 the Dealer in the UK had all the documentation for me incl HPI but for peace of mind I did my own.It only cost £20 I think.
Did you check the VRT on it?

    Best of luck with it

haggle hard, it's the old model and the new model is starting to come on the market now in the UK.
Nice looking car though, well wear.

This has a multitronic gearbox, not as good as the vw dsg (7 speed) gearbox. I had a a4 1.8T with this gearbox and found it hesitant in certain situations, e.g. roundabouts, during gear down and back up. If you are aware of the issue with gearbox the rest of the car is the finest.

A 2008 highline passat with the same engine and a dsg gearbox would be a good deal cheaper and 7 speed dsg gearbox is far superior.

Cannot understand why vw still use the old autog-gearboxes in the Audi's

Make sure its definitely a 2008 car though as "57" plates are only up to March 2008?

is the 2.0 that much superior to the 1.9?? How so? I had spotted a few of the 1.9s very reasonably priced in the UK.

I could go for a Passat, but i thought i'd treat myself to a nicer looking Audi...

Yeah, i will do a check before i go buying anything

Didn't the new tax regeme kick in for new cars registered after July 1, 2008? I'm not sure if a 57 reg would qualify.

There's a lot of options on that car so best to check the VRT. DVD satnav could cost you dearly from a VRT perspective especially given that it's a newish car. Remember, even if it's standard in the UK, it's the spec if the car here that counts for VRT so anything above the standard spec will be calculated for VRT.

    Best of luck with it.

2.0 Engine is more refined than 1.9 which is ancient. I had the 1.9TDI in my old A4 and have now a 2.0TDI Passat. I would have kept the A4 but due to expanding family had to buy a bigger car.

Let me guess, you drive an Audi! Daft generalisation

What is the DSG gearbox out of interest?

A car first registered between Jan 1st, 2008 and June 30th, 2008 can opt for whichever regime is more favourable.

Forgot to say the 1.9TDI is 115BHP where the 2.0TDI is 140BHP

    what's wrong with Passats lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,754 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

    now, excuse my ignorance...

But would there be more VRT payable on a 2.0 TDI than the 1.9?

Also, is the CO2 tax band higher for the 2.o???

not necessarily the case no. Some of the 2.0 & 2.2 litre engines produce less CO2 than the lower engines.

VRT is hard to predict, you need to get on the revenue site for each individual make and model. Even the variations of the model will have different VRT values.

Style over substance. I'm not getting into this again.

The car in the link that the OP provided is the TDi TDV which means it has a Diesel Partical Filter fitted which will reduce the Co2 emmissions. It is a also an auto though which raised the Co2 over a similar manual version.

OP that car has Co2 emmissions of 164g/km afaik (assuming it is the 140bhp version).

Yeah, i've kinda realised that once i did a bit of delving into audi cars...

The Audi A4 seem to have changed to a standard 2.0 after March 2008 so the 2.0 seem to be 2-3K dearer than the 1.9TDI. (which is still a good engine imho)

right, so i had finally spotted an Audi A4 i was seriously interested in, great price too, rang the dealer this morning only to be told it was sold on Saturday. god damn it!!

    the search goes on.

i've kinda come to the conclusion that '08s are over priced. so i think i'll try a 2007. 1.9 TDi 115 bhp and hopefully get it tuned up to 140

Yeah, i know road tax etc. But they are much cheaper priced. So I'd pay €280 extra a year for tax (152g CO2) for 2007 model. not too much
