I thought you had 24 hours to VRT a car once you got it back?

By trailering a car you are making things complicated as there are various rules for trailer towing that you need to comply with. These rules are not enforced in Ireland but are in the UK. The majority of people who tow trailers in Ireland break the law while doing so, in many cases are driving without the correct licence and as a result are possibly uninsured.

Bull crap!!! just make sure you got a valid MOT, Road Tax and you are insured to drive the vehicle and you can drive it back from the UK, Then you have two working days in which to pay the VRT in Ireland.

You officially have to the end of the next working day following arrival into Ireland to pay VRT.

With all the paper work in order some ppl just hold onto the ferry ticket & claim they are over for a short visit from the UK it gains them a bit of time to pay the VRT. If not then you'd see the car on the back of ITS!

Has the CCT been paid on the car?? Cos it's coming from Japan worry about that more than VRT, that has to be paid at first point of entry of the car to the EU.

+1. You need a four wheel drive to tow it , or so I've been told.

There is no need for a 4 wheel drive, very few HGV's are and they tow tonnes more. All that's required is that your vehicle is rated to tow the load and you have the correct licence and insurnce.
