Ok over the past few weeks this pop up has been popping up every 29 seconds and it is driving me mad,

I've never been able to get a screen shot of it before today as my pc lagged just for a second before i went to turn it off and i got it but still appears and goes to quick for me to click on the proxy options thing

Any advice as to what it is / how to get rid of it / is there something serious wrong with my pc?

    Thanks,

    Just incase you cant make out the writing;

    No connection to Master Server

    Please check you internet connection
Most likely you use a proxy server and you have to enter the proper information
    in the optons dialog

""Retry" will be returned in 29 seconds.

    (Proxy Settings) (Cancel) (Retry)

can we take it that you are set up at home and not in a collage or whatever with a large shared internet connection if so
with internet exp- go to tools (top right of page) internet options-connections-lan and see if there is a proxy set up there (if this page is blank thats good)
firefox tools-options-advanced-network-settings see what page says

I would say that you have some form of spyware or malware.

The terminology sounds dodgy - and I don't recognise the icon on the dialog box.

I did a google on the phrase "No connection to master server", and found this page:
    http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/826436-no-connection-master-server-error.html

but there were also posts from gamers on other sites referring to a master server. If you play games with an online connection, then it mightn't be spyware.

Ok after the restart the pain in the arse is still there,

once again the pc kinda lagged at the start giving me time to hit the "Proxy Settings" button on the pop up (image on original post)

I had marked the no proxy option but dont think i clicked ok cause i wanted to see what ya's though first and half way through this post, I min this window to see the pop up and its gone again.

this is what it was anyway after i clicked the proxy options

I'm thinking that there is a program running, that is trying to call home, but can't.

Try asking here. Tell them what you've done so far, but try these steps first, then get HiJack, install it, run it, and post the log file into the thread.

    hi
    • Download OTL to your desktop.
    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Under Custom Scan paste this in

      netsvcs
      msconfig
      safebootminimal
      safebootnetwork
      activex
      drivers32
      %systemroot%\System32\antiwpa.dll
      %systemroot%\SYSTEM32\wpa.dll
      %systemroot%\setup\scripts\biestart.exe
      %systemroot%\system32\drivers\royal.sys
      %systemroot%\system32\oobe\AntiWPA_Crypt.dll
      %TEMP%\antiwpa_crypt.dll
      %TEMP%\antiwpa.dll /s
      %PROGRAMFILES%\antiwpa.dll /s
      %systemroot%\system32\crypt.dll
      %TEMP%\crypt.dll
      %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.
      %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
      %PROGRAMFILES%\*.

    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
      • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTListIt2.
      • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.
