I made an application for Jobseekers Allowance back at the start of June, after finishing up college in May and unsuccessfully searching for a job. However, I heard nothing back, and have finally gotten a job which I started this week. However, I'm unsure of the protocol to let the Social Welfare office know. I found out last Sunday that I had gotten the job, and was to start the following day.

I have been ringing the Social Welfare office on numerous occassions each weekday since to let them know that I now have work, however their phone is never answered and for some reason they don't have an answering machine, and as I am working Monday to Friday in Dublin and live in Kildare it is not feasible to go in on my lunch. They don't seem to have an email address that I can contact so should I just send something by snail mail, and will this be sufficient?

I'm really unsure of the protocol and I doubt my application has even been processed. If anyone can advice me of the next step I would appreciate it.

Yes. Write to the office you applied to.
In addition if your JA application is successful, you will get the payment from application till you started work.

Have you tried e-mailing the welfare.ie site with your details, including PPS no. and relevant dates? Hope this helps.

write to the local office wrere you claimed and get a reciept for postage (the post office gives you a reciept with the address you are posting the letter to on it) keep this in case of problems

I have it sorted now. My mum offered to run into them (yup I'm lucky my mum would help) with my pps number and my first pay slip. They gave my mum a slip of paper that I had to sign and that was it. I have sent them in a letter aswel, so have all bases covered hopefully!

Now just hoping that the job will continue!
