Ok, so I could be posting in completely the wrong place! I was looking for some kinda hobbies page. Basically, I'm not working this summer and used to enjoy calligraphy as a kid, so I've purchased a cheapie starter kit online, hope to refresh and upskill myself in the art over the summer and then possibly advertise to use calligraphy in writing out invitations for people.

Does anyone know anything about calligraphy or anyone with a business type mind...would there even be a market for such a thing these days? I won't mention the dreaded R work!

Anyway, it'll be a bit of fun and I'd prefer to spend the time doing something fun and constructive while I'm free! Would love to hear from you if calligraphy is an interest of yours too.

    Thanks! No_Regrets :)

Hey there... long time LL lurker (male) just shopping online myself at the moment for some drawing and painting tools - and of course dropping into the LL for the latest tips and tricks... shhh, don't tell anyone!

As a graphic designer, I recently started to miss the time out I used to take for drawing and yes... Calligraphy... so I've got back into doing both. Started really as a hobby to see if I still had it and kinda accidentally grew from there...

Now I'm no da Vinci, but I was surprised to see how quickly the drawing and Calligraphy came back to me. Did a good friends wedding album recently and his brother (a photographer) shot maybe a half dozen weddings this year - and asked that I do the album for each. Wound up doing place cards for one of these weddings.

My point is that weddings and photo albums (you know, the page where the names, date, time and church are filled in) can be a real little earner for an hours work. If I were you, I'd try and get a foot in the door of a few wedding photographers, stationers/printers etc... to offer your service - as there seems to be a bit of a market there. 500 high quality business cards can be got for less than 70 euro these days... all you need to do is the legwork!

Who knows, maybe you could build from there and offer Calligraphy for all types of events, birthdays, confirmation and communion certificates etc...

And remember it's WEDDING and not WEEDING... Unfortunately there's no little "undo" feature at the top of a Calligraphy pen. Damned photoshop and it's fancy-schmancy features!
