Anybody remember the old Ladybird books 'Well Loved Tales' with accompanying audio tapes. We used to do them at school and I had loads at home, all gone now. They seem to be easily found online but no sign of any of the tapes. Anybody keep any of this old stuff, I'm surpriesed that somebody hasn't copied them to mp3 somewhere online!

The audio cassettes are almost impossible to find! A terrible shame.

Sorry Jaygon, never see them about. It'd be cool alright to hear the originals...'who's that trip trapping over my bridge?!':) That was my favourite.

I'm sure there must be a collector out there who has them. It would then just be a case of digitalising!

The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the Little Red Hen, the Gingerbread Man... I had at least a dozen of those books in the 70s. I never had any cassettes to go with them, though.

I'd say the audio tapes are very hard to get I still have alot of the books. I did see in the shop of the National Gallery that you can now get the book covers on Greeting Cards and notebooks and wrapping paper. My favourite was always Beauty and the Beast.

    Hi Paddy!
Your contribution is VERY much wanted. Most of this stuff isn't even on e-bay anymore.
I would be very very grateful for any kids audio material you have from the 1970s/80's or early 90's (Hansel and Gretel was the exact one I was looking for!)

    Thanks again

The magic porridge pot was my favourite too.

I remember the picture on the front being this old lady in a shawl screaming as the pot overflowed?

    Edit: found it:

That's the one I remember the most too. I used to get hungry reading that book when I was young. I was not too far off licking the pages! Anyway, more pics here. Memory lane ahoy!

I recognize the covers of so many of those books as I had them at home or in school.

Some of the characters iin the books always scared me as a kid. The wolf in the Three Little Pigs and the guy in Beauty and the Beast.

Used to get them from the mobile library. The illustrations were just beautiful.

I had a lot of the 1980s editions of these books, read them cover-to-cover many times back then. I'm sure my parents still have them, when I was cleaning out a room there a few months ago I found my old copy of Snow White and Rose Red.

Town Mouse and Country mouse was my favourite, the pictures of cakes and riches always made me drool. I remember being terrified by snow white and rose red, and the little evil elf who had his beard caught in a log!!

Wow- these old audio cassettes are prooving much more difficult to find than I thought. Turns out that the ones on e-bay/amazon etc. are 'Favourite Tales', Ladybird's later series 1994-2000. The original 'Well Loved Tales' (1979-1990) audio seems nowhere to be found :-(

We had loads of the books but I don't remember having any of the tapes. Some of the books had words at the bottom of the page I think? The illustrations were great - when my pup swims in the river and gets to the deeper water with his nose in the air I always think of the illustraions with the gingerbread man on the foxes head, then his back, then his nose then nnom nnom gone! :D

Hey I just remembered another one we had - Aesops fabels - while the cats away the mice will play, one with a crow dropping stones in something to get a drink and the one where the fox tricks the crow and takes it's cheese! :pac:

I got it when I was about 3 or 4 y/o and had to go to the hospital for an operation. I think my parents idea was to familiarise me the working body. I'm guessing it just freaked me out more with all the human skeletons and skinless bodies playing cricket.

Little Red Hen and Three little pigs were favorites with us and this was long before audio cassette tapes were invented.

Does anyone remember a series of ladybird books called "The Garden Gang" ? At the beginning of the book there used to be a description of the author, she was only 9 at the time when she wrote them, I thought that she was very cool back then. http://www.easyontheeye.net/ladybird/70s/garden/793.htm

I have one of 'The Garden Gang' audio cassettes

    which brings me back to my intended question;

Has anybody come across any more or the Pickwick/Ladybird accompanying cassettes?

:) Ladybird books? I guess kids, today, feel they know it all already. But, I learned a lot from these slim, simple to digest and understand volumes:

I had Dick Whittington and his cat on tape. I think it had a Peter and the Wolf soundtrack.
I remember weetabix tokens being collected for the books years ago
