ford focus 2002, 1.4. had problems with the speedo and engine warning light, posted on here about it before. had diagnostic done tonight and it confirmed the problem is

P0720 output speed sensor - circuit malfunction
P0723 output speed sensor - intermittent

how and where would i pick up a sensor, and how much would i expect to pay for this ????

Get the chassis number of your car (usually on the lower part of the windscreen) or in or around the top of the engine bay.
Call a motor factors armed with your chassis (or VIN) number and give them the details of your car - year engine type etc, and they will quote you for the price of the sensor. Get a few quotes. Then call an independent mechanic and ask him how much to fit a speed sensor.Again get a few quotes.
The speed sensor on my car is on the gearbox - I think, it takes a speed reading from the drive collars but your car could be totally different. Sorry I can't help you there.
Anyway, the last place you should get a quote is the main dealer and then compare prices.

could try rining a local auto breaker and getting a second hand part.... usually works out a lot cheaper...

thanks lads. the problem has been there forever it seems. as well as the speed sensor, the diagnostic shows up problems on the dash, though confirms they are only symptoms of a networks problem which is this sensor. i'll use the link you have there robtri and see how i get on. just need to go and try find a chassis number now, as i have a new windscreen on it o)

Was there ever a clutch done on the car maybe you just have a loose wire on the gearbox or a bad connection on the plug.
