Right here we go. Great weekend on the way.

    Football:

Tipperary V Sligo - will be a really interesting game. 2 dark horse of the back door. I am a huge fan of Kevin Walsh and reckon he'll go on to great things in the management game. Sligo by 2.

Monaghan V Derry - Derry have been unimpressive so far this year but I reckon they will, in classic GAA fashion, turn all this talk about Bradly and disharmony in the camp into a positive. Derry by 3.

Dublin V Kildare - the Dubs are a cut above all others in Leinster at the moment. Dublin by 6.

Longford V Kerry - I'll stick my neck out and go for Kerry here. Longford will put it up to them by 40 mins but ultimately fall short. Kerry by 8.

Westmeath V Meath - Westmeath to cause a shock! Backlash time and no better team to revicve their standing in the country among their fans. This is last chance saloon for a number of players in their careers. Westmeath by 1.

Clare V Galway - I'm from Galway so can't be neutral. Should be a cracking game but I reckon Galway have the class to see it through. Galway by 4.

Tipperary V Waterford - Second best team in Ireland at home in the Munster final against the hated Davy Fitz! Its Tipps to lose. Tipp by 7.

With the amount of rain forecast today, is it a fair assumption that lots of the pitches will become waterlogged this weekend?

    hope not . :(

Current Forecast: Saturday, 11 July 2009 04:56 Today Mist or fog in many areas at first, with patches of drizzle. Rain will develop in the west and south this morning and will spread countrywide in the afternoon, turning persistent and often very heavy. Totals of 15 to 30 mm are likely, with a risk of local flooding. It will become very windy also, with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees.

    Tonight

Clearer weather will follow in the late afternoon and evening, with scattered showers to follow overnight. It will stay windy in the west and north, but winds will ease elsewhere. Lowest temperatures 11 to 14 degrees.

Tomorrow will be a bright breezy day with sunshine and showers, some heavy and possibly thundery.

Carlow will win the the Christy Ring Cup

    London the Nicky Rackard Cup

    Donegal the Lory Meagher Cup.

    thanks for asking :pac:

    EDIT:

It's nice to see the major GAA news websites have nothing whatsoever about these games. GAA.ie and RTE.ie merely list the fixtures off while at least the hoganstand has an interview with the Carlow hurling manager.

Anyone know if they are streaming any of these matches? They're showing Derry v Monaghan on RTE at 3 and Clare v Galway in the hurling at 6.30.

I find it funny how the OP decided to leave out the Wexford vs. Roscommon match.... I know the result is a forgone conclusion, but a discussion on the margin of victory would be interesting.

    I say Wexford 2-16, Roscommon 0-9 :)

Tipp v Sligo - Very tight, Sligo by a point or 2. Possibly extra time.

    Westmeath v Meath - Meath by 3.

Longford v Kerry - Kerry handy enough. 8 pts.

Wexford v Roscommon - Two teams having a bad year. Home advantage to sway it Wexford's way. Wexford by 3.

    Monaghan v Derry - Monaghan by 2.

Donegal v Carlow - Another handy draw for Donegal. 9 or 10 pts.

Down v Laois - Down to send Laois further backwards. Down by 2.

Wicklow v Cavan - Should be tight, maybe Wicklow to edge it by a point or 2. Cavan the worst team in Ulster now.

Clare v Galway - Galway by 5. I'm confident enough about this one.

Wexford v Limerick - I fancy Wexford with home advantage but the injuries make it tough for them. They might still sneak it, will be a tight one.

Tipp v Waterford - I think this one will be tight. A Waterford win wouldn't surprise me but I'll go for Tipp by 3.

Dublin v Kildare - How good are Kildare? We'll find out now. This is a step up for them though. Dubs by 4.

RTE aren't streaming any matches online which is disappointing given the plethora of games on this evening. God only knows why TV3 are covering the Longford-Kerry match. With respect to Longford, you would think they would show a game that isn't a foregone conclusion. Like Westmeath v Meath or Wicklow v Cavan.

I would say you like many others took Roscommon for granted. Also Wexford without Matty Forde, are an altogether different proposition to the same team we saw in last years championship. Wexford Park was covered with loughs of water which made any high scoring unlikely. People seemed to think that after the Rossies hammering by Mayo, that they were a poor team, but to be fair they're not. And they would have wanted to put this right today, they couldn't play as bad as they did against Mayo.

You forgot to tell Longford, have kept Kerry scoreless for last 25 minutes and with a few less wides could be winning...

Are Kerry really that over-dependent on Donaghy? Surely they have a Plan B?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,350 ✭✭✭Het-Field

Has anybody noticed that the failings which have dogged Dublin for the past 10 years has spread like a virus through many of teams who would be considered "contenders", save for Tyrone ?

Kerry and Cork have failed to put teams away, and have gone for long periods without scoring. Today's poor performance against Longford cannot be considered "foot off the gas". Nor can Cork's performance last week be considered an isolated incident. Is the day coming where a small team will giantkill a top county ?

didn't appear to, outscored 7-2 in second half and longford kicked a pile of wides that should have been scores.

    Wexford limerick score, anyone?

Yes longford played well to be fair, but they continually kicked ball either into Diarmuid Murphy's hands, or wide of the goals. Once Donaghy went off Kerry just collapsed like the twin towers (pun fully intended). A slightly more experienced team would have taken Kerry today. Yet as it was, the game was over by half time. And because Longford couldn't put the ball over the bar, Kerry were always comfortable.

Kinda. They played only one half of extra time on account of weather.
