At a well attended AGM held in Old Belvedere RFC recently Rory Barry Duke was elected President of the Leinster Branch... New Ross RFC launch "Dunbrody Seven's" tournament on Saturday 22nd of July...
2006 Leinster Branch IRFU - AGM (Thursday 22nd June 2006, Old Belvedere RFC)
At a well attended AGM held in Old Belvedere RFC on Thursday 22nd June Rory Barry Duke was elected President of the Leinster Branch and thus becomes the first person from his Club - Suttonians RFC - to hold this honour.
Rory attended Clongowes Wood College and graduated from UCD where he played at scrum half and became very involved as both player and Captain with the Freshmen sides and Junior Rugby.
Qualifying as a dentist in 1967/'68 he went to the UK for a number of years which was the custom at the time for newly-qualified dentists.
Returning to Dublin a few years later he set up a practice in Sutton and became involved with the local rugby club - Suttonians RFC - then a Junior Club. He became Club President in 1984 and has been an active club member ever since.
Suttonians RFC became a Senior Club in 1996/'97 and that year Rory took his seat on the Leinster Branch Executive Committee. Including his involvement with the Branch when Suttonians were a Junior Club - Rory has been involved with the Branch for close to 15 years.
No doubt Rory will also look forward in the new season with interest to his Club playing for the first time in Division Two of the AIB All Ireland League.
In proposing Rory at the recent AGM as the new President of the Leinster Branch, outgoing President Brian Brady summed up Rory as "...A leader of men from an early age and although small in stature - big at heart."
Rory thanked Brian for all his efforts on behalf of Leinster Rugby most of which Brian did in a quiet, efficient and unassuming manner. Indeed it is true to say that a lot of what Brian did and his vision of where Leinster Rugby needs to go and how that can be achieved both in the Domestic and Professional Game will hopefully come to fruition in the very near future.
Meanwhile, the New Ross Rugby Club would like to invite all Leinster Junior clubs to participate in the inaugural "Dunbrody Seven's" tournament on Saturday 22nd of July.
An entry fee of 150 Euros includes entry on the day and lunch for 10 players and 3 staff members.
Winners will receive the Dunbrody cup and 1000 Euros.
Closing date for entries is Friday July 7th
