I awant to take up kickboxing and there are 3 options so would like an opinion off ye guys if ye are members or were in the gym for classes in the past.

    1. dave joyce in liosban

    2. muay thai kick boxing club in westside

    3. black dragon in tuam road

i will check out all 3 places myself to see which i like and would appreciate an insight off any of ye guys.

I've heard that Dave Joyce's club is very good for Muay Thai. I haven't heard of the Westside club (that's not to say it's not equally good just haven't heard about it). I've also heard the Kickboxing club is brilliant!

So maybe decide if you want to do Kickboxing or Thai boxing.

I do kickboxing in Black dragon every so often and would highly reccomend it, Pete has some of the best kickboxing fighters in Ireland training there

Have you thought about giving MMA a shot? I run beginners classes all year round, and we incorporate a lot of striking (aka Kickboxing / Muay Thai) in what we do. Training in MMA means you learn to fight standing up, but lots more as well.

i have indeed mark, i want to get a base of stand up or ground fighting first then move on to mma, i would be interested on popping down to a beginners course for the 6 weeks or whatever the duration is if there is one coming up in the galway area?

what gym are ya in also?

Folks don't normally get a base in one or another art any more, that was for when the sport was in its infancy and there weren't dedicated beginners classes. Students at my gym (www.PointBlankGym.ie) learn all three ranges i.e. Stand Up Striking, Wrestling and Ground at the same time.

Because there are many positions across the mixed martial arts each class is modular - it doesn't depend on any class that came before it, this means that beginners can join at any time.

Check out the website or mail/call me for any more information.
