Hi, I'd like to know if anyone can tell me about this course here,
BSc (Hons) in Software Systems Development
    Course code: WD068
    http://www.wit.ie/StudyatWIT/UndergraduateCourses/Science/BScHonsinSoftwareSystemsDevelopment-WD068/

Anyone doing it here, or done it? Would like to know particular what your thoughts where on the organization, layout, timetable and administration of this course. I know I'm not asking anything regarding content, but that's important to. However how are the people that cover the course. Is there a good feel of motivation and interest in seeing students through successful

regarding submission; does many people come in externally? or is it mainly an add-on course from other course at WIT

    Thanks in Advance

Just finished the course was called commercial computing then same lecturers on the course however you have a work experience module and option modules. Lecturers friendly, the course is a mix between business, information systems and programming. Programming is very interesting and its covered very well, good balance between theory and practicals. Usually you are in from monday to friday finishing at one on friday however when i was in first year we did not have any classses on friday.

Is the work experience module in the 1yr add-on module? as it seams like there would be limited time for such a module.

About exams; is it mainly project based work or are there many written examinations

I think the most interesting question is going to be is did you find it hard to find work after? was there much questions about the education?

    Thanks

There is zero work experience in this course you have to do the BSc (Ord) in Software Systems Development (Years 1,2,3) then BSc(Hons) in Software Systems Development (Year 4) i have done both when they were called different

BSc (Hons) Software Systems Development (Duration 1 year) I have just finished this course (BSC Hons in Commercial Software Development) i have not got work yet but i am doing a masters by taught in september in WIT any how . Must have ordinary degree in computer area

Project Modules is where you complete your final year honours degree project you are assigned a supervisior 100% CA

Server Programming /Dynamic Web Development 50/50
J2EE/J2ME, JSP2 Expression Language ( Very Practical Based Learning)

    HCI & COGNITIVE SCIENCE (50/50)
A mix between the Human Factors in computing , accessability eta as well as things like perception

Inter Oraganisational IS (70/30) I have been told by the lecturer of this module that i will be 100 exam exam but she is trying to get that changed because we were the first year to use SAP in this course

Formal Method and Software Patterns (50/50)
Programming again Java, hibernation, ANT , Subversion etc

As this course goes under a new name from this year on there might be slight changes however the lecturers are great and the course is very interesting. There is not too many exams had four exam this may in the course for the second semester and they where spread well so i got at least a day break between each exam

Sounds interesting, i really aren't the exams type person, kills me to have to site for 3hrs in a hall and just work.
I already have a B.Eng Ordinary in Computer Engineering + some years of experience so i think i could meet the criteria to enter into the 1yr BSc Hons

    btw, you learn SAP?

Not an exam person myself, standard exam duration is 2 hours. Given the current economic climate it might be worth it it's only one year and you will come out with an honours degree. WIT was the first third level institution in ireland to offer sap through the SAP Academy. I was told by the lecturer whom does SAP that she would like to and would hope to do it over two semester when i did it it was over one as such we just scratched the surface, but SAP is also being taught in the ordinary degrees now how so i dont know how that works. I would not worry about entry so long as u have an ordinary degree. Semesterisation operates in wit just taught i should tell u some people have trouble coping with the change. What kinds of stuff did u do in the B.Eng Ordinary in Computer Engineering

Wonder if someone could answer me this real quick.

I did (what was) Commercial Computing for the two years to get a Higher Cert, I wanted to do Applied Computing but a combination of CAO Crap and me not checking I could swap courses once in college, meant I got stuck.

Now, I applied for year 3 of Applied Computing, to go in this September, but the course I was offered was, this, Software Systems Development..

I dont understand how I could be accepted into a 1-year extension course that you need an honours degree for, when I had applied for, Applied Computing which I wanted.

It might just be an administrative cock-up because (at least how it looks on the WIT website) you cant apply for Applied Computing unless you go through the CAO again.

I'm not at home right now, but I'll probably still find myself emailing the course leaders for some answers to this.

Is SSD not Commercial Computing rebranded? It may be something to do with you leaving with a cert and now offering you to upgrade into a degree in your "reformed" course?

Only way to know for sure is to double check. Not sure if its a course head area.

You cant go into the third year of Applied Computing you have to go into the second year because of the stream options.

Theres BSc (Ord) Software Systems Development and BSc (Hons) Software Systems Development now there are stream options in to ord degree did they offer you a third year place on BSc (Ord) Software Systems Development.

I expect they have offered you a place on the third year of the BSc (Ord) in SSD if you fully completed your higher cert. I expect if you are willing to go into the second year of applied computing they will accept you. I know some of the lecturers on ssd and was simply telling whats plans they had for september. did not say cc and ssd was the same just some subjects are same however even then there are changes for instance you can now get oracle db qualification on BSc(Ord) in SSD

theres no business studies involved. the titles of some of the subjects are misleading and might look like they're to do with that sort of thing but they're all about the type of software systems businesses use and are fairly straight forward anyway.

Guys, I'm not sure how you're getting this so wrong, but Business Processes is like doing business accounts all over again and after that it get's more company-orientated. And you do go for work experience for the fourth semester in SSD.

I'm in third year right now and it's a joke how they're organising everything. We haven't had a programming lecturer for two weeks because she "Didn't want to teach us". So we had to wait for another lecturer to fill the void, but we still have the original for practicals. And the amount of work is unholy. Then again, this is the final semester so that's to be expected.

i did business processes and it was all just about how companies function and the different systems available to make the processes more efficient. it was really basic common sense stuff.

the majority of the course is taken up with programming, web development, networking and databases which is all mostly practical, hands on stuff.

I'm definitely mixing up the business modules then.

There were two with "business" in the titles, I'm talking about the one that you do for the second semester of first year.

The one that involves profit & loss accounts?

yeah you're still mixing them up. you're thinking of software business or whatever its called but you take that as one of your choices. you do profit and loss accounts for a while in that. business processes is in the second semester of first year and is easy.
