Went in for a look on saturday and looks very good, nice set-up and they staff seem really good. They're not fully setup yet but will have simulator etc' up and running pretty soon according to manager. great selection of kit and some good deals at the moment. Definately worth a look.

Was in Saturday as well and agree -- early days, but good staff and more stock to fill out the place.

Callaway X fairway woods for sale at €70 was best deal going if you are in the market...

I was up there on Saturday myself.

Some of the staff seemed to have moved from the Tallaght branch to get things started in Dundrum so they're an experienced bunch. I ended up buying a Jack Nicklaus Hybrid while I was there and I have to say I was very happy with the service. Although that said the shop was empty at the time, it would be interesting to see what it's like when busier.

I was disappointed with the staff there myself. One heavyset gentleman in particular seemed willing to 'bend the truth' in order to get a sale.

Went in to price a set of Callaway X-20s. They were 469. I had seen sets available for 399 elsewhere. Told the guy who was 'helping' me this, to see if he'd reduce the price. He pointed out that his set was 4-SW whereas the sets out there for 399 were 4-PW.

Fair enough I said. However, with the popularity of specialist wedges, the SW in the set is losing importance, a lot of people, me included, have separate wedges which they would use instead. He said this was untrue and that a SW in a set of irons is just as important as the 5-iron.

At this stage I just thanked him for his help and walked out.

Bit harsh. More a matter of opinion than bending the truth. Salesman's job to present his offering in the best light, and he was offering you an extra club for his higher price - up to you to take it or not. You chose not but I wouldnt hold it against him.

Interesting. Were you going in to buy the set? I mean would you have bought the set if he had given you discount? Did he have to match the other price in order for you to buy? Cant see a lot wrong with what the salesperson did to be honest. You were getting an extra club after all.

I have nothing to compare it with as I haven't spent much time in golf shops before, but i thought i'd throw my 2 cents in,as it may help others who are thinking of going there.
I was out there today. I found them very friendly and helpful and not pushy. The guy I was dealing with (Colin),was very thorough and gave me good advice. They offer to fit/alter the clubs to your needs for no extra charge which seems good to me. I'll be definitely going back there to buy my clubs. He said we can spend a while analyzing my swing and figuring out what clubs suit me best/I like best.Sounds like very good service to me.

Hi Colin!;). Are you the guy who used to be here pushing American golf in Tallaght. Used to drive from Balbriggan or somewhere?

wow,you go to the effort of posting something hoping that it may help someone out,and you get a cynical reply like the one from sandwich...i won't bother next time...let us all know when you lose the chip on your shoulder....

As I said I just wanted to price the set, I was very unlikely to buy on that visit. I have no problem whatsoever with them selling the set up to SW, or charging extra for it. The bit I had a problem with was being told that the SW is as important as the 5-iron, when buying a set of irons. He was suggesting that all the sets out there being sold to PW were fundamentally flawed because they didn't include a SW, and dismissed my theory that many people used specialist wedges.

Anyone saying the salesperson was right - answer me this - do you use the SW from your set of irons, or a different wedge(s)? Now do you use the 5-iron from your set or use a specialist 5-iron? I'd suggest from my experience a lot more people would use a separate wedge, although if I'm wrong I'll happily apologise and back sheepishly into a corner!

I must add, I was in there again yesterday and thought the salesperson I spoke with this time was excellent, I think it may have been the Colin referred to above.

Ok Fair enough Snakey. I see your point.
I myself do have a specialist sand wedge( vokey) with my set of Callaways. I thought he was saying the sand wedge is more important in your bag than a five iron( which of couse is true) and that you disagreed when actually you were talking about the importance of whether or not it was matching the other clubs. Maybe there was a misunderstanding in the shop too?

This member of staff Colin is gettin a bit of publicity isnt he! Your mention sounds genuine but not sure about the other one!

hey waterville, indeed my mention was genuine...i have no affiliation with him or american golf...i've actually encouraged a female friend to buy her new left handed clubs in mcguirks as they are cheaper there...they didn't even have any in american golf...i'm still going back to get my clubs in AG though...the nike ignites felt lovely as did the slingshots...wanna try the taylormade r7s also... our collective new hero Colin is actually a pro golfer (or so he told me) which probably helps...

Resurrecting an old thread but needed to get this off my chest.

I went into American Golf Drumdum during my lunchtime about six weeks ago looking for a couple of Wedges. I had been told over the phone by a sales rep that the Titleist Vokeys were 2 for €150 (last years non conforming ones) so I went down to have a look.

On arrival I saw that they were €99 and that the promotion was over. I moved on and said "Fair enough"

So I saw a lovely Cleveland 56 degree wedge which felt nicer that the Titleist's and at €69 a good bargain. I said I wanted to match up my wedges as opposed to having ones from different manufactures so they said they could get another in from Cleveland. They called up on the spot to see whether the 50 degree was in stock. I was told yes and I gave them my deposit for the club as well as buying the other Cleveland, the 56 degree. Delivery was supposed to be one week. A week later I called the shop but was told that the 50 degree wedge wasn't in stock after all. Cleveland had apparently sold it to another store. So after some debate I said I go for the 52 degree and get it bent if necessary. In the meantime the manager (very sound guy to be fair) said he'd lend me his own wedge to get me by and to see what I thought of the 52 degree. 3 - 4 weeks went by and I hear nothing from them so I popped down again at lunchtime to see where it was and was told without a care in the world that the 52 degree couldn't be sourced either. The rep then tried selling me the Titleist vokey @ €99 and even checked with Titleist to see if it was in stock. I told him the whole reason for me buying the first Cleveland was to match them up but he didn't have a care in the world. Aren't reps meant to care? Or are they just there to make sales?

I asked could he do the Titleist (last years model - the same one that WAS on promo) for the same price as the Cleveland he said 'Yes, €99'. I said hold on the original Cleveland was €69 not €99 to which the rep said nothing. I then said I'd have to leave it and go elsewhere so he literally walked off and left me standing there in the middle of the shop. This is after me waiting for 5 weeks to buy a new club from them. I then, feeling embarrassed to ask for my €10 deposit back took a glove off the shelf and brought it up to the cash register and tried swapping it for my deposit. The same grumpy sales rep was then dragged from the back of the store to do the swap. He should have offered the deposit back with an apology for not sourcing what they had promised 5 weeks ago.

I think, had the manager been there he would have sorted it out but staff should be trained to look after customers regardless.

The guy needs a lesson on customer relations and a kick up the @ss from his manager. I returned the managers club and passed on my thanks but their customer service stinks to high heavens. I got the Vokey up in McGurks for €75. Unfortunately I still haven't got matching wedges thanks to American Golf and not an apology in sight. Its madening.

I had spent approx €350 Euro in American golf over the last 3 years but I wont be going back now.
