I'm not sure if this would work with black dye because it's hard to lift but you could try washing your hair with head and shoulders shampoo or washing up liquid! Used to work in a salon and whenever people had home colour that was too dark and they wanted it lightened we used to tell them to do this to lift the colour! (Use a LOT of conditioner though!) Used to get a few strange looks but it sometimes helps! Like I said though I don't know if it would have any effect on black dye, was it a home colour or a salon colour?

it was salon but now its a home one its a lot cheaper despite the fact ...

i was told the same by a hairdresser about using green washing up liquid, and head & shoulders is what i normally use:) ive managed to fade the colour a lot by using these two but now it just looks ridiculous now because its faded black most places and my routs are now noticeably brown.. :(

If you really want to get rid of the dark colour- try buying one of those "home Hightlighting" kits- these tend to have alot of bleach in them and will turn your hair a blondy green colour- and then just dye over it. I have done this a couple of times when I want to go from black to red
This is really bad for your hair but I find using a intesive conditoner ( I use the tresemme one in a tub) it will be back to normal in a week or so.
