I`m looking at a unit to rent at the moment. It is available now, but,i don't want to move in until November or December as from January onward its my busy period. What are my options?
Will the landlord reserve the unit for me (which would be another 4 months)or will he look for somebody else to move in asap???
    All advice is appreciated

He may look for someone asap... but will he find one in this market?

Why are you asking here  ? Surely you can negotiate this with him personally as nobody here knows the answer.

Tell the guy you'll take it now rent free until an agreed date. There. Sorted. :D

It depends on how long you want to lease the unit. Paperwork can take up to 2 months if you really want it to.

If you are going to take a long lease, you'll get 3 to 6 months rent free. However the landlord will lower this as christmas gets nearer.

A short lease of less than 5 years and you'll get a lower rent free period.

Assuming the rent has fallen to reflect current conditions, there will be interest from others. If the rent has not fallen then it will remain empty. - There has been a noticable increase in reserved signs around Dublin city because rents have fallen by up to 50% and currently are at 2002 levels.*

*Figure based on recent rent agreed on store at college green at 25% below 2004 rent & 15% above 1999 rent.

    Depends on the area/location.
