    Hi,

I'm currently renewing my insurance and so far 123.ie have come in at the lowest quote. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what they're like.

I've used them since 2006. My wife went with them for her latest policy (bearing in mind they're just a broker). Had no hassles at all so far.

I signed up with them a few months ago. Couldn't be nicer to deal with and waited 8 weeks while my previous insurance company were stalling the ball on issuing my NCB. I found they don't answer emails very often, so telephone is best bet when you want to contact them. Also, they underwrote my policy with Travellers Insurance of Ireland.

I couldn't use them because their radio jingle drives me fu<king mental.

I used them for home insurance. No problems. They are only brokers so ultimately it depends on the underwriter. I also used them for mortgage protection and the underwriter was Canada Life. Mrs crosstownk uses them for car insurance and also hasn't had any problems

Same here, got insurance this year for €290, though only on a 1.1 litre.
Found they were a little slow in getting out the policy & disc, it took 2-3 weeks, though I got an explanation for this.
The person who gave me the original quote had left them in the mean time.

Used them for the first time this year without any problems. They asked for license numbers and we gave them wrong ones by mistake (2 sets of numbers on your license, big one is not your license number). They made all the calls to correct this quickly and were very easy to deal with on the phone. Much cheaper than anyone else.

One strange thing. The quote is valid for that day only. Normally quote valid for 30 days. We sat on the quote for a day to think over our options and next days quote was 50 quid cheaper. Which was nice !

When I first went with them, they were the cheapest by far but the following year the quote jumped by €100 so I rang round and got a cheaper quote, went back to 123.ie and they said they couldn't match it so I left them. They were slow in getting documentation out and in returning phone calls.

I also had a house insurance quote with them which was also very cheap but when I received the documentation in the post, I saw that the policy excess (i.e. teh bit you pay yourself in the event of a claim) was €500 when everyone else was only giving an excess of €250. 123.ie had not told me that the excess was so high which I thought was being bloody smart.

Spent a year with these people, very low quote in comparison to others. Moved next year due to work issues, no problems/delay in supplying paperwork.

    Thumbs up from me.

The only real way to judge an insurance company imo is in how they deal with a claim.

The wife used them for the first time this year and to tell you the truth shes not happy. Yes their quote was the cheapest but they have an admin fee for everything and it aint cheap. She had to do a temporary transfer of insurance last week for 2 days and it cost her 40 quid. Now shes getting a new car in about a month so she asked them will there be another fee to change over and the answer was yes another 40 quid. So by now if we'd went with another quote from a rival , it would have cost us less. You've been warned ;)

I was insured with them for a few years and found them great. fully comprehensive on a provisional license for 500 euro. they're a broker and the policy was with eagle star who quoted me 2700 the same week.
i made a claim and they paid out straight away and also gave me a courtesy car while mine was being repaired.
they won't insure you unless you have two years no claims discount and no more than 4 points though.

Slightly off topic but if any insurer (not aimed at 123) are acting the bollox with renewal quotes, issuing documentation etc get straight onto the insurance ombudsman and make a complaint. There are certain standards they're obliged to adher to

    +1

Had to transfer to garage loan cars a few times since I've moved and been a bit peeved by the admin fees every time. Fee seems to have gone up from €10 at that time too. Transfer of insurance to a UK reg temporarily and permanently to Irish reg cost me €40.

Will prob move back to Aviva next year, savings blown on admin fees and no free internet alternative like Aviva offer.

Btw 123 aren't a broker in the normal sense, they're a tied agent. Home & motor policies are underwritten by Travellers & they have some crazy sales agreements with them (disadvantageous for the underwriter, not the customer).

House insurance from them for a few years. No probs, one claim, paid up. Every year they try to increase the premium by about €50 or so, every year I ring and it goes down to a €10 or so. Also, compared to others they cover laptops in your car (boot) if you specify it as an item to be insured.

Got a great quote off them, very slow sending out cert (still don't have it). When I rang to inquire the guy who answered was obnoxious, unfortunate, but not a reflection on the company as a whole.

yes very nice too deal with, unlike my last insurer, very good prices also
    no problems here .

I used to be insured with them, I had no problems,,except that the 4000k excess meant that the premium was paid purely for a tax disc, making any claim is uneconomical. I know you can buy that down, but then the premium came up considerably. Try glennon insurance, they usually have pretty good prices.

I went to 123.ie for a Third Party quote this year and it is still over €100 more expensive than my existing policy with nononsense.ie...which is FBD Insurance although they cut paperwork to a minimum

    what about stuff like
windrecreen damange , theft of sat navs
    and stuff like that?

i had to do a claim with aviva , but that didnt affect my no claim bonus

is that the same for 123.ie?

am with 123 now trying to make a claim. 4 months on & has not been sorted. poor service. you will save in the short term only. forget about broakers & stick to main insurance companies.
    they have my heart broken

I am trying to cancel a Policy with them as I have moved to another company what a song and dance to get it done.I have to send them a letter about why I am canceling and I will be charged an admin fee (40) . I will never go through them again and I would advise anybody else to stay away for the few quid you might save on your policy!! Its not worth it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 837 ✭✭✭BarryM

My general policy with insurance cos is to wait unitl the renewal comes in, look for another quote, if it is the same or better, for less, with someone else I sign up and just let the renewal lapse.

I have found it is never worth it to try to cancel, unless it cannot be avoided, like a change of circumstances, 'cos they always a) try to get you to stay, b) threaten you c) refuse point blank d) charge a fee e) try any trick in the book to avoid giving you back money.

123 sent a renewal with 4x the previous premium for my house. I phoned and they took a small amount off, so I just went elsewhere and 123 didn't even bother to send me another reminder, obviously didn't want the business.
