    Straight to DVD?

Mel Gibson will star in 'The Beaver' which will co-star, and be directed by, Jodie Foster.According to Variety, Gibson will play a depressed man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet and Foster will play his wife.Gibson and Foster will re reunited on screen following 1994's 'Maverick'.The Beaver' is due to begin filming in September in New York.

 Does she make her own puppet, does Gibson put his hand right in her Beaver? This I gotta see!

p.s. Apparently the script is excellent

Last i heard of this, Jim Carrey was set to play the lead role! Thats quite a casting change.

I'm not a fan of Gibson, but this sounds hilarious. I keep getting images of Gibson dressed as Mr Garrison from Southpark.

Was going to start a new thread but saw this so......A trailer for this has just popped up, looks interesting I have to say. Apparently the script was more messed up than the trailer lets on too!

Read the script and found it far from excellent. It's a very dark comedy, but the hit rate is poor. As a drama I suppose it is interesting, but as a comedy, it's very much a lesser episode of South Park with Mr. Hat. It might work because of the two main actors, and lets face it, like a car crash, it's hard to look away as Mel Gibsons career goes into free fall. If I remember correctly from the script Gibsons character
tries to hang himself inside that hotel room
, which gives you an idea how dark it goes. I suppose it's a bit of genius casting considering what has happened subsequently, because it'll appeal to the people who don't like Mel Gibson, that is, if it sticks to the dark themes of the script. Alot of the scenes in the trailer seem similar to what I remember in the script.

Mel Gibson shoving his hand inside a beaver for 2 hours? sounds awesome on paper anyway.

Out of interest, does Mel actually get paid for the jobs where he 'acts' the role of a nutcase? Seems like taking money under false pretenses.

It mightn't be too bad - I'm still a fan of Gibson the actor

The trailer makes it feel like such a schmatlzy film (I don't know much about the film but I doubt that's what it's aiming to be) and with Gibson's career in near-tatters it'll be interesting to see the hub-bub surrounding this film.

I predict Gibson will regain some credability only to lose it again on something that will surface when this film is released. :pac:

So did anybody actually watch it?
I caught it on netlfix last night and even though I was looking forward to it, and it started off brilliantly, the film went wide of the goal. Like some here have said, I was dying to see how Gibson would fit the role and what it would do to save his career.

Fosters part was as bland as anything else she has done in the last fifteen years, and Anton Yelchin as the son had a very peculiar role in the film that just sank into nothingness.
The beaver element however, was done well and I thought Gibson acted the part brilliantly, but all throughout, it felt like the film couldn't make it's mind up on what type of film it was going to be...'dark comedy', or 'genuine drama'. The elements of both genres did not gel well together at all so I for one will not accept it as a 'dramatic dark comedy'.

Perhaps Foster suggested that this was supposed to be a reflection of Gibsons characters struggle but nonetheless, it didn't work.
As an afternoon watch on netflix, I didn't mind, but if I had paid to see it after all the hype, I'd be alot more disappointed with it.

Biggest problem with the film is Foster's direction. She plays it safe at every opportunity and while Gibson is great you can't help but wonder what Gibson would do with the material.

Well, maybe him trying to go 'out there' and her playing it safe is what caused the film to have the constant rift throughout it.
