How do you submit an opinion piece?

I just wrote an opinion piece(was going to e-mail it to a friend in an argument discussion that we are having), and I just realised that with a bit of editing I could turn it into a decent article.
If I do that, I was thinking that I'd like to submit it to a paper - not for any real hope of getting it published, but more for the experience.

Do you just email the editor of the section?

I think there is some good advice on this kind of thing on here already.

But my advice would be to phone the editor of the section and have a chat with him/her about the article and see if it's the kind of thing they are looking for.

This would allow you to try a few different publications in the one day if needed (hopefully not)

Otherwise send an email with a brief synopis of what its about.

You could follow up with a phonecall in a few days or whatever depending on the shelf life of the article.

    Good luck!

I never followed this up, but how do you find out the e-mail?

Do you mean the email address ofn the editor? You could call the newspapaer and ask or if you are talking to editor ask. If the paper has a website it might be mentioned as in editor@anypaper.com

since your the mod on UCD thread, why not try the Observer/Tribune in UCD?

Might be seeking out a wider audience than that?
