KLM758, enroute from Panama, Torumen Airport to Amsterdam made an Emergency Landing at Cork International. The man suffered heart attack on the plane ,Shannon was already dealing with another incident at that time so the KLM flight had to land in cork, touched down at 11:30am approx.

The aircraft came into Irish airspace 30 miles south of point DINIM, half way between SOMAX and DINIM. Apparently the aircraft took off again in the space that a 737-8 uses. Also EICK TWR asked the pilot on departure how long would he need on the runway and his reply was 2 seconds, apparently it was some rotation out of Cork.

You could been specific- it entered at BEDRA, the most southerly point on the western SOTA boundry, 60 miles south of SOMAX. "4900N/02000W..BEDRA..UN491..GUNSO..UM197..GAPLI..UN20..SAM..UR8..MID etc"

Also just for info, Shannon had N811NW A333 routing to Atlanta with medical. NWA811

It was either AH or The Sun.

Tower actually asked him how long before he would be ready as there was an Iberworld A320 established on the approach when KLM was about to depart. He said 2 seconds until he'd be ready. Then tower got him away before the arrival of Iberworld.

The MD-11 rotated before the intersection on 17 - well before your average B738 would.

    Cork-Spotters welcome.:)

Just also been told that EICK's main Runway is infact 2133m (6998ft) so I can't see it being that difficult to land and take off. Also an MD11 is nicknamed the SCUD as a lightly loaded MD11 climbs really fast.

Spot-on. Any wide-body aircraft that is lightly loaded is going to have outstanding performance in the takeoff roll and climb. In fact he climbed so fast yesterday that ATC were not anticipating it and he had to keep on asking for higher flight levels.
You must also consider that the aircraft was already after flying for ten hours by the time it landed in Cork, so just imagine what sort of power would have been needed in Panama for the aircraft to takeoff with payload and about 13 hours fuel!

The 'Examiner this morning has the story that the unwell passenger had previously suffered a gunshot in Panama and had suffered a heart attack on board. This either got garbled in somewhere along the line of communication or else the gardai decided to attend anyway, but the aircraft was met by Gardai in Cork Airport.
That may explain the hijack story.

    http://aerspace.blogspot.com/2009/07/n811nw-ph-kcf-in-medical-diversions.html

Good shot by a WAP regular Mr Paul Daly.

    811NW, PH-KCF in medical diversions
Today's Northwest Airlines flight NWA 811 operating from London Gatwick to Atlanta diverted to Shannon when a male passenger fell ill. The aircraft was west of Ireland when the aircraft turned back and landed on Shannon's R06 at 10.32 utc. Unfortunately the passenger was pronounced dead on arrival at the airport, having suffered a suspected heart attack. The body was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick. The flight departed Shannon again at 12:42 utc.
N811NW was a recent visitor to Shannon prior to today's diversion. The aircraft performed a technical diversion on June 12 when smoke was noted in the cabin by a crew member.

At the same time as the Northwest Airlines flight was diverting to Shannon, flight KLM 758, routing from Panama City to Amsterdam was forced to divert to Cork, also with a medical emergency. The flight operated by MD11, registration PH-KCF landed a few moments after the NWA flight landed in Shannon. The passenger on the KLM flight who had also suffered a suspected heart attack was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. Flight KLM 758 departed Cork again just after 11.30 utc. Shannon is the preferred diversion airport for technical and medical emergencies but since Shannon was tied up with the NWA flight the KLM flight was directed to Cork.

The passenger aboard the KLM flight was a victim of an armed robbery during which he was shot, received treatment and was allowed to board the plane, he had been shot just two days previously.

He is a Chinese national and suffered cardiac arrest during the flight.
