    Hi Guys

Hoping to go away on a well deserved sun holiday in the next few weeks. Can anybody recommend a nice romantic/quite destination with good restaurants. Budget is very tight so no crazy suggestions please! I prefer city breaks but the OH likes those lazy sun holidays, can anybody think of a good compromise?

    thanks
    freddie

Alvor in Portugal is a nice destination for couples for a beach break.
Good weather fab beaches and nice restaurants, "resort" is small and set around a small square with winding streets.

Most of the tour operators do this resort but accomodations vary- depends on what the budget is.

Fly to France, anywhere really but no paris as the budget is blown immediately.

Try to hire a car. Dont worry you could get a Pug 206 for around €100 for a week.

Drive to someplace like the Vendee along the coast and wait for it.................... You may not find this romantic but having a a week in a mobile home on a camping site is actually very homely and romantic.

Keycamp keep e-mailing me and posting me stuff so they are doing amazing offers.

Not your average holiday. Your are never too young for a holiday like that and YOU DO NOT NEED CHILDREN to go there.

I really liked turkey, steeped in history for you and lots of sun for your missus. I hear Dubrovnic is a good place to visit for mix of citybreak and sun:)

great mix of the two in places like sardinia, corsica, sicily. or hire a car and go along a small bit of the west coast of france, even a bit inland for vineyards etc...beaches are deserted when away from the main villages and some pretty phenomenal restaurants everywhere

Have a look at a lovely, relaxing town in Croatia cal Makarska. It's magic

I'd agree with two suggestions above - Alghero in Sardinia or Dubrovnik in Croatia. Both have beautiful old towns in the centre but have small sun holiday resorts in the suburbs, best of both worlds.

Alghero would probably be cheaper as Ryanair fly there.

Lagos in the Western Algarve, Portugal. Lovely place for couples. Full of hundreds of restaurants and some lovely bars. Beside some beautiful beaches too! Sunworld do packages there.

Definitely go to Dubrovnik, there's a beautiful old town where you can do tours about the recent war and things like that, it's really easy to visit Mostar in Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro (lots of tour companies do full day trips costing about 50 euro and it's well worth it!) so there is lots to do during the day but at the same time there are loads of beaches. Stay in Lapad for the beaches, it's only a ten minute bus ride to the old town and they come every ten minutes! Am just back from there and really enjoyed it, the old town is great at night and it's not too expensive there!

    If budget is tight, rather than a package use;

    http://www.holidayhomesdirect.ie/

    and

    www.ryanair.com

I went to Alvor last year using those websites and am off to Costa Blanca on Saturday. Savings on a family of 4 are around a grand.

    Hi Berty,

Am researching this kind of holiday in France also but from experience and I have never ever hired a car for 100 aweek or anywhere near this price! Have you any more details ??? More like 50 / 60 yoyo per day.

    Cheers....
