    Guys, I have an idea for an invention which is both green and saves time/money but i've googled it and cant see anything similar so where do I find out for certain?

    If this is well worth protecting and could make you shed loads of cash, it may be worth concidering filling a patent for it. Contact irish patents office

    The short answer is you'll never find out for certain. By doing a Google Patents search, you have a good shot at finding it.

    If you can't find it, I'd suggest you speak to a patent attorney, who can tell you if it can be protected, and who can prepare a patent application that will provide you with some value.

    Doing it yourself is high risk - if you get your initial application wrong, you may find it is worthless as protection ... and sometimes the problems can't be fixed later, even by a professional, e.g. if you have disclosed it already by the time you realise that the patent specification is missing something critical.
