I was wondering if it was possible to share a 3G connection via my LAN using my wireless router?

this will probably get kicked to midband

anyhoo, it is possible, there are 3G wireless routers available (i saw some in CPW) but by no means will it be a good quick connection to all hosts on the LAN, just remember you'll be splitting an already not very reliable connection

on your own router? i dunno, has it got a USB port? we'd probably need to know the specifics of the router

It's only meant as a short term solution. We're moving house and our ISP have disconnected us from our broadband earlier than they said they would, the first time I've experienced anything in Portugal to go quickly and the one friggin time I didn't want it to .

Anyway I'm not looking to buy a dedicated 3G wireless router as I'll only need it for at most a couple of weeks. I'm trying to find out if I can use my existing equipment to share the 3G connection between my PC and my wife's PC. I have a 3G usb device plus Netgear DG834 Wireless Modem/Router

See the 3G routers & Dovado Threads. Also google ICS to see how to do it on XP (NT5.0).

    Also possible on Linux.

Can be done too on Win98, NT4.0, Vista/Win7 (AKA Windows 6.x)

Can be done on any PCMCIA (Using USB2.0 adaptor card) or USB host port on any router that can run OpenWRT and has enough memory for the Linux drivers.

    It sure will.

You should be able to share with ICS, but I've never had any success when I tried. ICS is not great, so it may or may not work for you.

yippee, got it working. :D I'm just connecting my laptop to my desktop directly. I'm not using the router at all, it would have been handy if I could have used it, but get the impression that I can't or at least not easily. For anyone interested I pretty much followed the instruction on this link http://mobilesociety.typepad.com/mobile_life/2006/08/how_to_share_yo.html although it didn't work straight away. I had to shut down and reopen the 3G connection on desktop and also reboot the laptop but much to my surprise I'll admit I got it working at least. Now hopefully I can get my wife's PC connected up, as was just using my laptop to test. ;)

Edit: Wife's Pc connected after a reboot too. :)
