The Fire Brigade Control Room rang the house to confirm an ambulance is needed in my house, which it was not. Some saddo playing a prank by the looks, it has scared the bejaysus out of the mother though.

Fair play to the Control Room guy for tracing the mobile it came from and ringing me back with the number. I didnt recognise the number but tried ringing it anyway; it is turned off and the mailbox is full.

Just wondering do you people in this forum know where best to report this?

Gardai will be my first stop tomorrow, although I think there is some other organisation who looks after these in detail but im not sure.

    Any help appreciated.

Go to the Garda with it. It could be the start of more to come. Trust me. We had one a few years back and when my Dad eventually went to the garda we cought him. As it turns out it was someone we knew. My poor mum was so upset. He tormented us.

Waow, what an idiot for pulling such a stupid prank. Definitely pursue it, hate it when people think they can just mess around with the ambulance service as if it was a joke and who knows it may have delayed a response for someone who was actually in need of an ambulance. It's possible the phone might be stolen but I'd still report it to the Gardai, any other organisation would just be statistic gathering. Scary to think you might know this person.

Unfortunately this is an ongoing problem in some areas.
Many times we get a call to a location knowing that it's the usual time wasters, yet we still have to respond, just incase.
You arrive on scene to find it is indeed a hoax call and you also know that the culprits are looking and probably laughing at you.

In parts of the UK the authorites ran TV adverts with a recording of the voice making the hoax calls, they would also display the number if it was available, and the location and time the call was made.
Some ES websites are now running these everyday in a hope to stamp out this dangerous practice.

If you google "hoax emergency calls" you will find thousands of such calls and it will give you an idea of how much of a problem this is to the Emergency Services.

I would report any hoax calls to the Gardai.

I can never understand why people think its funny to place hoax calls. When I was working in Drogheda we used to get a few calls of a car being driven the wrong way down the motorway. Every car whether it was available or not made their way to the motorway at break-neck speed.

OP, sadly in some areas the level of hoaxes are higher than others , due to idiots with nothing better to do.

I personally speaking , would report it to the Gardaí.

Sadly, somebody may get seriously hurt because of these idiots. The ambulance/fire will be tied up elsewhere with the hoax caller and unable to deal with the 'real' call.

It really is sometimes blood boiling when you realize that it is a hoax, how could someone be so heartless as to abuse the Emergency Services use in such a way for entertainment.

Here's an example of such a 'hoax'.
