Fantastic film but does anyone else think this just doesn't get enough credit, and is really under-rated?

Is it nothin' to do with the film though and only cos Johnny Depp's in it!!

From a Ripper nut, I loved it. Though I'd be biased because I'm a fan of the theory it runs with. Admittedly, I was unaware that it was a graphic novel until a long time after I'd seen it but even since reading it, the film itself is a nice moody, atmospheric bit of filmmaking.

It's nothing compared to the graphic novel.

Ripper nut since a very early age, didn't quite have any clue what the hell a graphic novel even was at the time! My sole resource was Donald Rumbelow's excellent Ripper case book.

Read the graphic novel. You can pick it up fairly cheap in HMV these days.

I've read it since seeing the film. I do agree that the film doesn't come close but as Ripper movies go it is definitely one of the better ones.

I've always felt that Jack The Ripper with Michael Caine was a cracking one. Better than From Hell.

"Oi, Ripper!" :D Yup, tis definitely a good entry into the series. And we cannot forget the most original spin on the Ripper legacy, Time After Time

Absolutely. Little gem of a film right there, such a pity it's not released on R2 DVD.
