    Hi,

As the title says. So far I'm considering:

    Audi A3 1.9TDI S-Line Met. Grey 2004 9k 100k miles. 3mth Engine & Gearbox

Audi A3 1.6 Attraction Met Blue 2004 9k 73k miles 12 mth Toyota Dealer Cover

    Astra Sporthatch?

I'll be paying cash, do 20k miles pa and want something not to big but sporty.

A3 isn't sporty. it's kinda refined, some might say elegant, but no way is it sporty

how about a TT? you'd get a nice one for 9k. they're easy enough on juice too for a sporty car.

go for a 180 quattro minimum.

    225bhp 4wd model for 10k asking. (with a cool-ish reg)

Sporty was the wrong term. I want something that's youthful, practical with rear folding seats, 3 doors is fine. The nature of my job means I sometimes will have to carry awkward loads. It still has to look good and be reasonably fuel efficient 40mpg ish min.

BTW I'm 20 with no NCB in my own name, 2yrs experience. This limits my options. My current underwriter won't transfer my policy onto anything over about 150 horses.

What are the remapping options/insurance implications for a 1.9 VAG diesel? Would you need to uprate suspension/brakes etc?

Oh and what is S-Line spec like compared to sport and attraction?

no need to really uprate the brakes at the speeds you'd be hitting with a remap at all. Defo no need for suspension either. basically add about 30 hp and 70Nm of torque to the standard rating of the VAG diesel.

The 115hp engine will go to 145hp with 320NM of torque roughly depending who does it. I had this engine mapped and it was fairly quick.

I wouldn't go for an A3 if I were you. A girls car in my book. You can go all the way to a 170bhp A4 for as reasonable as what you'll get the other model.

The A3 TDi is the pick of the bunch there.

Wouldn't be mad into an RS4 TDI to be honest! Does anybody know if I should be wary of TDI 1.9 VAG engines with 100k+ miles? What are the service/belt intervals?

Alfa GT diesel like this one from the UK:

    media?id=941344122

2004, 57k miles, for sale at 6450GBP ono.

The revenue have reduced the VRT incredibly on these recently - used to be looking at €5k to VRT a 2004, now it's below €2K. Just make sure it has a service history and has been belted. Can't go wrong for your requirements.

Great question. I'm thinking of buying something similar to the one I linked. I noticed all of the ones I've seen over 100+ miles all say their belt's were just replaced. Made me a bit cautious.

    Alfa GT:
Unfortunatly at group 15 insurance don't like that car for me. They want an extra ~€500 for the year. Just over budget too. I wouldn't get it here, NCT, tax, insure etc. for my budget of about 9k. Great suggestion though (maybe it's just my monitor or is that car turd brown?!)

Them TDi engines seem to have a good reputation for being good high millage engines. Mine has 110k miles on it and still going well. Timing belt should be done at the 100k mark. It should have fully synthetic oil in it too. Might be best to change the oil yourself if you buy one. The oil can cost you maybe 60 euro? I can't remember the exact figure. I've been reading about people cleaning the EGR valve on them after doing a lot of milage like the 100k mile mark.

it seems brown or maybe a dark wine colour. I wouldn't mind seeing it in the flesh, the colour might be nice. Or just as bad as it looks on my monitor :)

Have you looked into the Golf and Focus?
