Registering as self employed

    Hi Folks,

I have recently returned from a world trip (about 7 weeks ago) and due to the lack of jobs I am on the unemployment benefit.

I did however come across a cash in hand tour guide job. They also do pub crawls fro backpackers. I worked 5 pub crawls and the boss then showed me at a meeting the amount of money I was owed (€291). During this time I did not sign on.

I no longer work with this company as I feel they were cons, but I have not received any pay. I was then told by them I would have to register as self employed, they told me this after I had worked my shifts. Before this I was told it would be cash in hand.

I am now signing on, but I would like to know do I have a claim against them. Can I take them to the small claims court as they are not paying me. I do not wish to register as self employed now(even though I no longer work for them) as it may effect my unemployment benefit

    Any advice please

Were they registered as a company? Did they have any employees that they put 'through the books'? Did they give you any info with their details on it? Have they given you a reason as to why they are not paying you??????

You don't need to register as self employed to get paid.

Legally you are oblidged to account to Revenue/ Social Welfare that you have received this money.

Just ask for your money and tell them that's your problem.

When you facilitated in fraud, which is what this is you don't really have any rights. Play with fire and all that.

they are a registered company, as for putting employees through the books, I can only speak for myself, I was never asked for my P45 and they never got me to sign any contract. I did sign something to say I wouldnt use there information with any other company.

I received nothing with there details on it, I was even left out of the loop. Wasn't told about team meetings, special offers, schedules etc. I even got a voicemail on my phone from a guy in head office wondering why I wasn't working with them.

I met with the boss on 1st July (a civil meeting) she told me to register as self emplyed so I can invoice them. She showed me a sample invoice, which I filled out and sent to her the next day via email. But she failed to reply, or pay me. I have been told a few times now I do not need to register as self employed.

i feel I have a case but just need to be sure
