    Alright folks

Just to keep it short, SCEE have jumped on the "rip off Ireland" bandwagon as my PS3 died 3months out of warranty, did the formats and resets and still showing corrupt file on hard drive.

Annnnnnyway, Ive been told of this Western Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB 2.5" Internal SATA Hard Drive. That I can buy new for 58yoyos, a 100yoyos cheaper than Sony's fix. Has anyone else ever changed their HD on PS and if so any problems atall, any feedback is appreciated

changed mine a few weeks ago from the original 60GB up to a Samsung 320GB. the only trouble you will have is with the screws that hold the HD in place in its metal sleeve inside the machine. Just use a pliers or similar type of tool and bobs your uncle

other than the screws its as easy as apple pie

My dead machine :( is a 40GB and Im quite naive in regards of technology, so you think its a good idea just to change HD and it should get PS back to life.

everything that was on your PS3 drive will be gone, you'll still have your account and trophies but all your save files and install data will be lost.

As you are not going to be moving anything to the new drive the install is very simple. Just pop out the old drive, pop in the new and start up the machine. It will format and install everything for you. Better to have an internet connection to update the firmware.

im not saying that i guarantee its going to work (save myself from liability) but for 58 squids its definitely worth a try.

if you can, find an old laptop one then check it out to see of it works first, then buy yourself the shiny new HDD and bring the beloved black bread bin back to life
