Can't get into Registry Editor/ Install Kaspersky

One of our clients requested us to install new anti-virus software for them. We logged in and installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, but there is an issue with the install.

It seems to have installed the files and folders ok when I look in Program Files, but when I go to open/run the executable, there is no response at all!?

I decided to have a look at the registry to see if I could see any values relating to old AV software that may have been on the PC before. When I go to Start->Run and type 'regedit', nothing at all is happening!!

So as of right now, there is no AV on their PC, as well as regedit being inaccessible.

Any ideas what could be causing these issues??

    It's XP Pro 2002 SP3.

    Any info appreciated!!

did you try removing the software and seeing if you could access the registry then?
