    Hi all,
I know alot of ye maybe sick of answering this question but i need to ask it anyway.

I record alot of matches on a dvd recorder, it works fine BUT only plays back on that specific machine. Also the quality isnt great. I am looking for some hardware and software for my apple macpro that will allow me to record live matches onto the computer and then allow me to burn and edit them onto DVD. A dvd however that can play on most dvd players. Also the player i have at the moment cause alot of pixilation which as you can imagine isnt great when watching fast moving sports like hurling.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on this topic.

    Thanks a mill

    Bitter:pac:

This is more of a video editing question....How hard core on quality do you want to be? What is your source for the video?

TBH pixelation is going to be a problem no matter what, especially if your source if analog at some stage. If you are using NTL for example, its compressed before transmission, then converted to analog (SVideo\composite), then compressed again by your capture card, then compressed again when its converted to be a DVD compliant MPEG2 video.

Ideally you would want a digital source and a digital way to capture it. So that brings us back to the original question....whats the source.?

Basically what im looking for is for some way to connect my television up to the computer while a match is in progress... Then record it to the hard drive and complete the it by burning to dvd...

I am using just a simple aerial connection on the tv, the quality does not have to be great like just good enough. Im not too pushed on that.

I have a sony bravia 32inch widescreen hd television. Is there anyway of just connecting the live feed into the computer and being able to save it?

You will need to buy an TV adpater for you computer, they'll range from €30 all the way up. You can get USB adapters if you don't like messing around with the insides of the computer. I'm not too sure what ones are available for Mac, google is your friend here! These are a tuner for the computer, so you'll be able to watch the TV while the computer is recording.
You will also need to output the signal from the computer back to the tv, the sony will have a D-Sub connector at the back, again I don't know what the video output of the mac is.
You will also need to get software to do the recording.

Hope that helps starting you off in the right direction.

Just on the point about it only playing back on that dvd recorder. It's possible you're not finalising the disk to make it readable on other players. By default, the disk is opened for recording as a multi-session disk. Until you finalise the disk, it'll only be readable/writiable on that player.

Check the manual/menus on your dvd recorder so see if this is the case.
