well my laptop is 2 years old now and still perfect !

but just a while ago Dell warning lights are popping up telling me to consider replacing my Battery !

"" your battery will charge normally. However it is reaching the end of its usable life. You can experience a longer operating time with a new battery. You might want to consider purchasing a replacement battery now.""

Do i have to ? my laptop dosent use the battery.... its always fully charged and running of the AC Power all the time anyway.

how long should a battery last anyway ?

if i properly calibrated my battery... would it go back to normal.... could this just be a minor error cos i only used the battery on its own for the first time in months ?

Batteries don't like being plugged in all the time, it's bad for them. If your going to use it as a laptop, get a new battery - if not, leave it be. Calibrating will not work on the battery, you need to do that when it's brand new.

well the thing is that when its fully charged i thought it would directly of AC power rather than go through the battery.

i mean i dont need a battery while its plugged in.. i can take the battery out and it would be perfect still

Yes it would except the obvious thing will happen every now and again where the AC will pop out and you loose all your open work. Just leave it as it and it will be grand.

As far as I know, you need to treat it like you should treat a battery in a mobile phone

Don't half charge, then use, the part charge again,
You should really use your battery until it is about to run flat.
then give it a full charge (without interruption) then disconnect and use again until flat again, and so on.

Not sure what can be done now, sounds like its fcuked

It's probably just a combination of dell marketing and your battery getting old. Whats been said about leaving the battery in when not using it is true, but it wont absolutely destroy the battery for another 2 years+

    Hi,

This might help answer your question

    http://ask.metafilter.com/51705/How-much-exactly-will-using-my-laptop-on-AC-destroy-my-battery

    Or

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=+using+ac+instead+of+battery+for+laptop&btnG=Search&meta=

Hope it helps in some way

    Good luck

PS: I have a Dell printer and even though I have ink in it ( not Dell bought) it keeps telling me I'm just about out of ink. It may all be a Dell marketing thing. Just thought I would mention
