audio codec

    Everytime i try to watch a movie using windows media player i can see it but not hear it and it says it needs an audio codes but when i select web help nothing happens so i googled it and found free-codecs.com but i am afraid of using it because it is an unkown publisher and all of my pc security system tries to stop me.Has anyone ever used free-codecs.com and if so what are your thoughts on it.Thanks

    It is fine. Download the k-lite codec pack from there. It has an extensive collection of audio codecs bundled there. Often smaller legit software producers will not sign their programs digitally, but if in any doubt is is never any harm to check on anybody who does not to be on the safe side.

    VLC is great too though - does it come with all the codecs on windows, I seem to remember having to get them seperately on Ubuntu? (** Nevermind I remember now it was just codecs for enabling DVD playback in Ubuntu**)
