Hello folks, i'm looking for advice as i'm at a bit of a stale mate at the moment, i've been playing in a trad band for the last 18 months and it was left to me to arrange gigs, pick out songs (as i am the singer) collect and drop off gear at gigs etc. and even though i love beening up there and playing as we have a small but loyal following in all the pubs we go to i've had enough with band members not pulling their wait, refusing or saying they are unable to practice midweek unless its a gig midweek they are available so we are stuck doing the same old songs as no new ones can be attemted 'live' also what i am starting to encounter is if i get a phonecall to do the day after of a wedding say in three months time the band members are saying that its to far ahead to commit to that date so we are losing gigs left right and centre, the instruments we have are all traditional instruments but i would like to branch out and introuduce a bass and some drums and not only do the trad music that we are doing but maybe head down The Pogues line a little bit and really get the crowds going, if anyone has any advice for me or maybe interested in starting a band with the same trad come Pogues idea in mind please let me know, kind regards.

Rent a rehearsal studio on a monthly basis for 2-3 jams a week. Then it's put up or shut up time.

sounds like they're messing you around, and have quite different ideas to you - you'd be better off starting fresh with more instruments and different musicians who might be a bit more willing to share the workload!
