    ok have a 1999 passat 1.9 tdi.

So far I've brought this to a garage for a service each time but this time was thinking of giving it a bash myself. Can someone list the things I need to do.

    ie oil change, etc..

and then a link on how to do each bit.

I bought this car as an in between car so I could think of what I want to buy next already had it longer than I wanted to have because I cant decide what to get next so I was thinking sure why not learn how to service a car whilst I have one that I dont mind if I make a mess of if ya know what I mean.

    cheers!

depends on what parts it's had in the last few services (fuel filter, air filter, fluids etc.)

not really sure what was done last time to be honest was done by a friend of the family. He changed the timing belt, and then air filter and oil are things that I remember other than that havent a clue.

Get yourself a Haynes manual for the Passat, about €25, Halfords or any motor factors sell them. I'd change the fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, oil and pollen filter if there is one. Look at the brake pads to see if they need replacing and top up any fluids that are low.
