July 11th @ Citadel Sessions - The Meloday Bar Capel Street
    - Vandal (LOT49)
    - DECK (Dave Kerr/ Eoin Coakley)
    - Morgan (live showcase set)

This week we play host to our second consecutive international guest, Vandal. From Meat Katie's label LOT49, and well established and respected name throughout the djing community, with a number of hugely successful releases over the past 7 years.

Born in Sheffield, Vandal, otherwise known as Sam Evans, started his musical career in his very early teens, playing guitar in metal and punk bands. Around the age of 18 Sam discovered Underworld & Orbital and his fascination with electronic music began.

Whilst studying at an art school in Cardiff in the late 90’s Vandal became involved with the Plastic Raygun group, a collective of dj’s, musicians, and film makers who went onto to form Plastic Raygun records. Sam eventually became Plastic Raygun’s label manager and from 2001-05 Plastic Raygun became a hugely respected, award winning label, discovering acts like Baobinga, Napt & Jean Jacques Smoothie. Plastic Raygun went onto release nearly 50 records, four CDs and in 2001 they had a massive top 15 hit in the UK’s national chart with Jean Jacques Smoothie’s “2 People".

It was during this time that Vandal taught himself how to produce and 2001 saw his first vinyl release. Vandal’s releases and remixes through Plastic Raygun received amazing support from the breakbeat fraternity and beyond. DJ’s like Andrew Weatherall, Paul Van Dyke, Adam Freeland, Daddy G (Massive Attack), Plump Dj’s and Damian Lazarus all raved about Vandal’s eclectic/electronic style.

After leaving Plastic Raygun in 2005 Sam sent Meat Katie a demo of future single ‘Mad As Hell’ and Meat immediately signed it to his LOT49 label. The track went onto become one the biggest tunes of '05 boosting the profile of both artist and record label to another level. Vandal’s next release for LOT49 was the equally huge ‘Obey’ which again became another breakbeat smash as well as receiving support from DJ’s from all genres including BBC Radio 1’s indie legend Steve Lamacq. A succession of remixes of some of breaks biggest names followed including Rogue Element and Metric and his huge remix of Meat Katie’s “Round & Round'

As each year passes Vandal keeps coming back stronger. In 2008 he released one of the most exciting tracks in recent times, a collaboration with the hotly tipped Blende called ‘Healthy Boy’. Vandal has also really established himself as one of the most exciting DJs in UK dance music. As well as Djing at some of the biggest clubs in the UK & Europe.

This week promises to be no different. Vandal flies in from the UK to hit us with some savage selections of Techno Thrash & Breakbeat. A big booking for me and promises to be a really good night. Vandal is busy touring throughout Europe and Asia and is fast establishing himself as a regular name on the festival circuit. This will be his first major outing on the Dublin dance scene and we'd like to offer him a warm, techno friendly welcome.

DECK (Dave Kerr/Eoin Coakley) are back with us and not a moment too soon. The lads are fresh off their performance at the No Place Like Dome Festival and keen to follow the same form they've shown in recent months. It's been an increasingly productive time for the deadly duo, and they seem to have settled into the partnership nicely, I'm glad to see them back at Citadel Sessions, especially with such a big headliner on the bill.

This week sees a new face to both Citadel Sessions and the Dublin Scene in general. So welcome to the fold Morgan, and we look forward to seeing what you have in store for us. Morgan will be playing a showcase set, using all his own productions. I've seen what he can do and look forward to hearing his new stuff played out for the first time this Saturday. So I hope you can all make it down.

    Cheers

    Justin
