Social Welfare Graduate Program

I am on social welfare and am a recent graduate. I was recently in touch with a Job facilitator in the Social Welfare and she told me that the Government were introducing a scheme where graduates could get work experience with an employer while being paid by the Social Welfare.

Has anybody heard anything about this? I have been out of work a while now and feel like my skills are being wasted (like everybody else) and I desperately need to keep my skills up to date.

    Now thats an idea.

I have heard nothing about it however.

Does the State get you the placement or do you get the placement yourself and then tell the pertinent State officials??

I would like the State to get me a number in a solicitors office.

The lady was a bit hazy on the facts. I think she got a memo on it and was just telling me about it. No actual details.
I assume you probably get the placement yourself - too much work for the government!

But I've heard nothing since. If it's only an idea at this stage, it could take months to implement. I am so desperate for work at this stage, I would work a 40 hour work doing something I'm qualified in for the dole money.

Off topic - since there is a lot of people signing, both highly and unqualified, why don't the Government get these people to clean up old parks, derelict houses, that sort of thing. The people who have never worked a day in their lives might get a nasty surprise!

Any idea when this is starting... I've a degree and a hdip and its so hard to find anything. I would gladly work for the money too (not getting any at the mo)

OP if you have the time, contact your local government TD about this, ask them when it is to be implemented etc.
I think it was announced in the October or April budget, but we've heard nothing since.

It's a good idea in principle

    Hi
link from Fas website here http://www.fas.ie/en/About+Us/News/pressReleases.htm

I registered with FAS for this and the guy basically told me that the govt rushed it in with no consultation (what a surprise) and that I was on the database, but they had no employers on board yet. He told me not to be offended if I didn't hear from them for a few months as basically nothing is in place.

    HTH

    Fran
