New Three Rock MBike Course?

    Hey dudes,

Was up at Three Rock on Sunday for the first time and saw (and rode on) what looks like a new track being built. I descended from the top near the TV masts and headed down as you look towards Dublin below you. It then splits into three paths. Two of these just lead to the road through the trees but another one leads on to a complex of obviously in-the-making bike tracks with white spray paint being used as markings.

Does anyone know who is involved in this and when it might be ready? Coillte seem to run the nearby walking area so I presume it might be them.

However, it has some of the best routes and jumps I have been on!

Yeah coillte are building a new course up there right enough. Supposed to be open by the end of the year I think.

I go running up there most weeks, as far as i know there is 45km of pathway planned, on the other side of masts (i think its called fairycastle) there is already a good bit of the pathway completed.

    Hi lads,
I can tell you for sure that Coillte are not building an MTB trail up 3 rock at present.
Myself and some reps. from the MTB community (MBI and DMP) are in contact/talks with Coillte recreation staff at present, and plans for trails are only in concept stage at present - ie; there are no Coillte-built trails in progress.
There are many club-built trails, most of them very professionally constructed by volunteers and enthusiasts, which you may be referring to.

There are purpose-built walking-only trails constructed up 3rock but these are constructed exclusively for foot-traffic, despite how attractive they may appear to cycle on.

Thats interesting, cos a friend of mine on the Dublin Mountains Initiative told me a few months ago that they WERE building a new course, and that it'd be open by year end. Must see what the story is.

Thanks for clearing that up Fergal, I hope you get the gig as it's pretty good up there. Of course I only walked/ran down what's there at 3Rock, I didn't have my bike with me, honest.
