Here is a news item I came across in Reuters.

I suppose some will say it has a cult following so I thought I should get in there first:D

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - What happens when you put a Muslim imam, a Christian priest, a rabbi and a Buddhist monk in a room with 10 atheists?

Turkish television station Kanal T hopes the answer is a ratings success as it prepares to launch a gameshow where spiritual guides from the four faiths will seek to convert a group of non-believers.

The prize for converts will be a pilgrimage to a holy site of their chosen religion -- Mecca for Muslims, the Vatican for Christians, Jerusalem for Jews and Tibet for Buddhists.

You don't even win money but a fecking pilgrimage to a "holy site" (although Tibet doesn't sound half bad lol)? Why would any atheist even want to go on the show to begin with though? What a load of nonsense!

I'd go. Who's going to pass up a free trip to Tibet?

A load of nonsense sums it up nicely tbh.

Just when you think reality TV can't get any dumber.

A team of theologians will ensure that the atheists are truly non-believers and are not just seeking fame or a free holiday
    :confused::confused:

My word. Why doesn't the Imam or Rabbi or whatever get the winning prize, they're doing the work? I don't get the whole concept of it tbh.

A few of these threads popped up in the Other forum. I think it's a really silly idea, and I'm not sure if the point (apart from making money) is to try and convert the atheist or get atheist arguments out there in the Turkish media.

Well there is a huge problem in Turkey between the Secular and the Religious. You see the current Turkish State is founded upon secular values or laïcité - separation of religion (in Turkey's case, Islam) and state. Currently, there is a rather religious government in power who want to impose religious laws and stuff. And the secularists and protesting about this. It's call causing many problems and Turkey is one of the most liberal Islamic countries there is. I'm guessing maybe the show has something to do with that, maybe.

I can think of a "pilgrimage" that would suit me if I won: a few weeks on the International Space Station. :D

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

How will they distinguish between someone that's actually converted and someone that just wants a free trip?

What happens if the atheist converts the priests? A trip to a science museum?

No the atheist will still be sent to whatever place of pilgrimage the priest was from, to try and convert more :)

    Simple answer yes.
Long answer: are you sure you want to have gameshow convertees as spokespeople for their respective religions.

(anyone converted in in the length of time it takes to run a gameshow would be a bit of a moron)

I think you'd find that would only work if atheism and science were directly linked :pac:
