Exactly what it says on the tin really. Had sound from speakers 2/3 days ago, now i have none. My headphones work fine. Have not installed anything new in the last week apart from an upgrade to my divx web player. (could something like this affect my speakers??)....not a great techie to be honest.

The laptop is 12 months old, insured for a further 2 years. Does anyone have any ideas or experience of this???. Are there any things i can try myself with calling the 'repair man'???

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

This is the laptop i have.....

Have the same problem, it's probably a loose circuit that needs to be re-soldered. I just bought myself a set of speakers instead of repairing it, better sound quality tbh!

Well, since your headphones work i doubt there is any hardware broken in the laptop.
Could it be that you did set the main volume to 0 (zero) without realising it?
Best advise i can give for now is to check the manual and see if you muted the sound or put it all the way down to 0 by accident.
Sound settings can usually be found via the control panel.
This would only affect sound via speakers, not the headphones on most laptops.

Thanks for the reply folks, i was on the phone to dell and pc world so i didnt get the chance to reply to your posts till now. Cut a long story short, man at dell tries to sell me an extended warranty (109 sterling for next 24 months, no thanks). (£29 for in home engineer to call 2mro and install fresh speakers).

Call pc world and man tells me everything is included in my coverplan up to june 2011, bring it to him and they will send to get repaired within 10 working days.

Next step, book 10 days hols and bring laptop in at my leisure to get new speakers......or......say balls to it, and purchase 'plug in' speakers.

Currently weighing up options coz i bring the laptop everywhere, plug in speakers might become a pain very soon.
