    Hi

    Recently got 3GS from Italy

    Its sim free etc....

Should I also unlock it ?

What are the benefits of unlocking over how it currently is

If a new OS comes out.. do I need to unlock each time

    Thanks

as mentioned, your phone should already be unlocked.

Jailbreaking is what I think you're looking for and yes, there are alot of good apps out there for jail broken phones!

    Go for it!

It's just so much more fun having full customisability.
And stability wise I have never had an issue - so yes you should - i would go as far as saying it's only half a phone without it!

Thinking of it also - what are the drawbacks???

O2 say it voids the warranty also - but can't you restore from iTunes?
Have new 3Gs ... advisable to jailbreak?
