You can only view classlists if you're a member of staff, you can view passlists alright but not classlists

If you're a member of redbrick, you can go to http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~d_fens/stalker to link a student number with a name.

Though if you were a member of redbrick i guess you'd already know that :pac:

How does that final website there - with the Stalker application - access the DCU database?

You used to be able to query ldap through your email, and access student names and photos. That facility is now removed, but i assume the service is still running and hasn't been closed by CSD/ISS. Thats my assumption anyway.

The student database can be accessed by anybody inside DCU.. you just need an LDAP client and the host name.

eh... what? SO members of the Redbrick club/society are privy to information that the "normal" student body don't have access to??? bit controversial to say the least. They use numbers for a reason, do they not??

Forget about redbrick. Bunch of Faglords (a reference to my first year username ;))

    This is what you do.

    1) Sign into your email address
    2) Click Address Book in Settings
    3) Click New group
    4) Add members
    5) Click Directory
    6) In Full name type the student number in then hit search. An email address will come up giving you the name.

This is prefectly above board... i think

Firstly thats a website hosted on redbrick, its not affiliated with the society. Every member of redbrick has their own webspace. The reason there is a password is to stop people outside DCU querying LDAP. In order to do it in your mail client, you have to log in, so thats secure anyway.

Ah, its back. Afaik it was removed about two years ago, either that or its location in the menus was changed. Yeah, completely legit.

Oh no, the secret is out

Nope, its hosted on a redbrick members webspace, he wrote the script to do it and ensure its protected against none DCU people. if you had the ability to write one, I guess you would also have access. Google it, easy enough.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by this.

A redbrick member wrote a script and therefore he and redbrick members have access to that information. Oh, that makes it all right so....

It is like saying that sage create an accounting package and are also entitled to access all information put into it, no??

Well lets put it another way. How do "DCU people" access it?

query DCU's ldap server directly, from within DCU's LAN. (I'm not going to give you exact instructions on how to query an LDAP server. I'm sure you can work it out with a bit of googling.)
