The Swords CC Sportive on Sun Sept 27th

Who says there's no hills in north county dublin? :D

Swords CC will hold a Sportive on Sunday Sept 27th 2009.

The route has been confirmed ( I drove it on Sunday )

This is a 10 hill challenge that will be approximately 110kms. Think that you know North County Dublin? Well this route will confirm it and afterwards give all a few idea's for that testing sunday run in the middle of winter.

The hils included in the Sportive are as follows and not in any specific order:

    The Man-o-war ( an aperatif )
Ardla ( from the bridge at Skerries )
Bellewstown to Snowtown Cross ( a little bit lumpy)
The Jack Stones ( Men of the Ras did it in the BIG Ring)
Alp d'Bellew ( tightens on some of the corners at the top)
The Coombes Connor ( a Classic and as wide as a flandrian lane, Paul Deans can confirm)
Hilltown ( Compact or not that is the question !)
    The Naul Telegraph
    The Bog Berg
    The Resevoir Dog
    The Nags Head.

Start and Finish from Ballyboghill GAA club to be confirmed.
Riders to start off in small groups of 15 to 20.

This is the chance to get one over on your training mates at the end of the year.

Seriously what do you think should be provided?
I'm never sure, enjoyed events with mega goody bags and ones with zilch as much. It won't be times so no gold/silver/bronze anyway

Any chance of the route being posted? Assuming this is open although I may join the club between now and then anyway.

Any why the smaller groups? Are they going to sort people based on ability?

Well the Louth Sportive was good because they gave out medals based on how quick you completed it. It forced some us (i.e. me) to ride beyond our ability. Even a gold wrapped chocolate medal would be grand. But I'll be doing it anyway, whether there's medals or not.

I would dearly love to do this, but I am out. Otherwise occupied that weekend.

I imagine its purely safety reasons. any of ye who take part in the swords league races on wednesdays will know that the roads are pretty crap around north county Dublin.

I have been living in Dublin 14 years and have never been out in that directin (even though it is not actually that far from where I have lived).

I may be tempted to do this, if cake was thrown in.

I do quite a bit of cycling out that direction. Never in a large group but the roads are generally better than some of the roads we hit on the tour of meath at the week. The meath one did have over 140 marshalls from what I heard so maybe that is the difference :)

Confusing looking route until you zoom in one level to get distance markers.

Hopefully I'm free to do it.

Just thought I would bump this back up as it's on next Sunday. Getting towards the end of the Season now, so there might not be too many more events to enjoy !
