Routing calls from 0818 number to VOIP number

As per title, does anyone know if this is possible or is a "proper" landline needed?

Logically I would have thought it should be OK, but BT Ireland have told me its not possible, so maybe it depends on the company providing the 0818 (national rate) number?

Any info much appreciated - thanks in advance.

    Mazza

(PS Mods: feel free to move to VOIP forum if better suited)

can you not directly approach a voip provider, and get them to provide you a 0818 number?
