    Hi everyone,

I saw a bird flying overhead while on the M50 near the Firhouse exit I think. It was black with at least some white. It's body was slender but reasonably large. Its most notable feature was that it had long dark legs. What do you think it was?

    Thanks!

    A Heron prehaps?

That was my own guess. But I don't really have any knowledge... Is there anything else it could have been? Also, how common would it be to spot a heron in this area?

Unlikely. Legs not long and wrong area as they keep closer to sea than that.

    Heron in flight.

I'd go for a Cormorant (the long legs is confusing though).

Cormorants are found on almost all inland waterways.

Thanks for the replies. I saw a bird flying over Dun Laoghaire harbour last night that I'd be fairly confident was the same species and I was told it was a heron.

@'tricky D', on your post I can only see one picture - between the words "Heron in flight." and "Cormorant" - which bird is that?

Cool, that's very like what I saw both times.
